Sub: great idea!!! i bet the wood base really does make it a lot easier for you to cut rounds and it probably saves on chains or sharpening since you wouldn't be hitting them in the dirt and rocks.

do you have any pics of you building that set up in your thread here and did you use old 4x4's and 2x4's or do tell? also it looks like the log is longer than your set up so once you get to the end of it on your platform do you remove the rounds and pull the rest of the log up on the platform?

looks like a lot of work, but FREE HEAT IS GREAT and i love the smell of a good fire even if it's in a stove.

Yep the long ones get pulled up on the deck as room becomes availble.

Spaced out at 16" for cutting the blocks as well.

Sub: did you find a good deal on a quality inversion table yet? reason being I love your log platform as it sits and maybe hanging 5 minutes a day will eliminate your back issues (that along with losing a few more pounds)?

Drives, Yep I have a inversion table, the brand you recommended teeter ups? I need to use it more than I due that if for sure.

Pictured is my mailbox setup.

I had to redue the old post rotted away so I made some adjustment's and like most thing's its a work in progress project. The Rocks in the Milk crates on the ATV are gonna get placed in the bottom Box to add some decorative flair in the spring when I don't need the weight for plowing snow in the spring.

Its a 35" tire the old mail box will be rolling on. err sitting on I suppose with aluminum slot mag as well! "Tire and rim was fee when I pick up a old trailer frame. I knew I'd find a use for it 1 day!"

complete base and so far held up to the winter snowplowing abuse that the mail box take's when the plow truck goes by. Box will get filled with rocks when the chance comes up that I have rocks that I don't have a use for.

Yep till that new post rots away.
Which post is 3 treated 2x6 nailed together.
Was a center anchor point in a Morton machine shed for 2 sliding doors pulled out of the ground by a dozer hence the chewed marks on the post

The box of s gonna get filled up with rocks to be somewhat decorative.



And maybe a coat or 2 of paint and I'm calling it done!
Plus this way a can say my mail box is rolling on a 35" BF Goodwrench tread and aluminum slot mag! To boot!

I hope for the next 15 years!

Sub: interesting and very STOUT mailbox stand. did you think of that yourself or get some ideas from other neighbors or a member here? once you put the boxes of rocks in that frame on the tire/rim I bet it would need an earthquake to move it.

I was thinking about your log cutting frame you built and wondering if putting logs under it to raise it might be too difficult. also if you have the frame up in the air how would you drive over it with your log behind your ATV?

I was thinking maybe having 3 old hydraulic jacks on each side to raise it to a height where you don't get as much back pain once you get the log in place. or maybe if you can't find 6 old jacks just make some blocking out of 4x4's or 8x8's that you can jack up and set them under the frame to raise it?

not sure i'm saying this very well, but sort of like the way they raise a house to move it.

Drive thanks for the mail box comment kudo's and its my own design sort of my dad's mailbox is bolted to a buried car doughnut spare tire I just took his idea and added some flair I suppose and used stuff I had on hand and done.

so since it's now winter and my ATV usage is down to just plowing the driveway and what not, and I have had a few free day's on the weekend I actually have done some work inside the garage on making it look nice and pretty or at least some what better.

Took me 1 day to clear this area in prep work for putting up the homemade shiplap siding.

got the plastic up and the first 3 rows of boards the bottom one is a treated 1x6.

I'm trying to keep the writing that's on the board's upright but when you have the writing both way's what due you due then? Count up the print labels and then most side wins I suppose!

or you go with the other printing and due you want to read up or down?

This wall is going up the wall I did last year is going down.

in keeping with having the printing all the same what due you due when you make your shiplap cuts the wrong way?
Pull out the old sander and give it quick once over and remove the upside down printing and nobody will ever know this board is now upside down.

I know probably nobody would ever have know but I would have and every time I looked at that board with upside down printing I would have been mad at myself know I'll just give myself a little smirk and know I pulled this off and nobody know but me!

just curious if you might want to put BLO (boiled linseed oil) on the wood. I probably wouldn't do that until it's summer and you can leave the doors open cause the BLO does have some odor/smell. I like using it on my old wood handled tools.

WARNING: rags with BLO or wood stain thrown in a pile can self combust into flames and start a fire so dispose of in a metal covered can or just hang them out to dry on a metal post.

I use BLO on my old vises and wood handled tools and really like how it protects the metal and wood. I might start brushing it on instead of using rags. also a tip if your can of BLO has been sitting for a while shake it up good before using it or it will take forever to dry. it does take a while to cure/dry anyway, but if sitting in a can for a long time the parts of BLO can separate hence not drying very well.

BTW is the inside of your garage getting toasty now that it's insulated especially when you have a fire in your stove?

oh believe you me there's plenty of flaws in this layout you just have to know where to look for them.

or as I call them character marking's.

and this is the view I have from my break chair which is right next to the wood Stove.

don't have much of a view of the wall but some great Old classic American muscle and workhorse of a truck as well.

though my tire is a little low I'll need to air that back up some day!

thanks drive and yes this summer if/when I get all the walls done and before I start adding shelf's and what not I might give it all a coat of BLO, and thanks for the tip on the rag's. I have been to 2 major fires that have been traced back to rags thrown into a trash can and started the building on fire.

another thing you can do before you put BLO on your walls is to put some BLO on a couple pieces of scrap wood and let it dry and see how you like it.

I never knew about BLO or other stains in rags causing fires until I joined GJ almost 5 years ago. then a couple years ago my neighbor was staining his new fence and he threw the rags on the 1.25 plywood bench in his garage. Luckily he saw it smoking before it fully caught fire, but under where the rag looked like a used piece of charcoal about 6 inches square and it had burned through the first few layers of plywood. when he showed me I then realized all this talk about self combusting rags had some legs so i better remind others.

i've read several stories of entire garages and homes burning down cause of this here on GJ so not surprised you've seen a couple while fighting fires in your part of the world.

work on the garage again this last weekend.

my starting point on the wall for the day.

then getting close to the end,

ran into some problems on getting the last board up and installed.

When trying to complete the last Shiplap cut I had some problems and on the first attempt okay my fault for not being careful on the cut. the 2nd board I did the end cuts first and just had the long cut to make and it split out bad on me, @#$@$@$#%$% Board got cut into scrap and tossed into the Fire I went and got a Spotted Cow and watched the board burn up and felt better or least somewhat warmer.

this section of wall is all done for now.

My cut off scraps are my fire starters as they burn fast and hot.
So if this place every gets going it'll be going up that is for sure.
Fire extinguisher is right next to the man door if needed.

so been awhile since I updated this.

Busy spring with 2 kids in soccer that takes up most of the weekend time with games and some of the week nights with getting them to practice and such.

but have when I have had free time.

made some updates to my Lawn mower service station, Added a set of steps for easy up and down on the other side.

and the more I use the service station the more I like it for things.

the mower in the picture I got for $50 dollars,

Funny back story on this mower is Had a garage sale at my folks rental house in town during the city wide garage sale weekend. "the Rental was between renter's"

so I set up some Eye candy out in the yard to get people to stop 1 of my ATV's, a garden tractor that I had reworked the Hydro ****** over the winter, Snow blower,
shelving unit, Chair's etc, inside was all kids clothe and toy's etc.

any way Thursday morning before 9am have a guy "mid 50's" asking if I'll take $350 for the $400 Mower I have listed. "Scott's 1642 Hydro drive 42 cut with 17HP engine"

I had to start it up for him and move forward back and turn the deck on.

I said the price is $400, he say's how about $350, I came back and said it's Thursday morning before 9am of City wide garage sales and the price is $400.00 he say's okay let me go to the bank and get the money. Any way 10 min later he brings the money for the mower then ask if I can deliver, I had my truck and trailer in the yard as I brought the mower to the sale with me that morning. I asked you live in town?
yep just 5 blocks away yep I deliver.

load the mower up follow him to his place and I young kid "early 20's" comes out the house and ask what's going guy says I bought you a mower to use, Kid goes I already have a mower guy goes this ones better etc etc, Kid didn't due anything else but I could swear he's doing a mental hand to face palm! any way I hop back in the truck and back to my sale. Guy show's up 30 min later and im thinking great he's gonna ask if I'll take the mower back, but nope looks through the rest of the stuff and away he goes.

Friday afternoon have a older guy with a cane walking through the stuff and I'm talking him up some cause I'm bored or what ever and He say's he lives kitty corner to the garage sale and been watching everybody come and go. Any way he say's when he gets home he's putting his old mower out at the curb side with a best offer sign on it.

I told him I would give him $50 for it and put it on my sale and if it sold I'd split the profit with him 50/50 if it doesn't sell he's still got the $50 and it he doesn't have any hassle with it. so he bring the mower over and I put on the sale for $300 and it doesn't sell and I have a nice $50 riding mower to use.

He wasn't able to use the old mower any mower because he couldn't lift his legs up to get on/off easy so he got a new John Deere Mower with hydro drive and easy on/off for him was why he was selling the old one.

any way I got 2 of the tractors from his Auction that I wanted John Deere 140 H1,

the Non Running H1 for $250

and the Running H1 for $450

so now I need to find some shop time to go through them and get them setup how I want.

The tiller (model 33) requires a rear PTO. That can be pretty hard (and expensive) to come by. Do either machines have a rear PTO already (it's a double pulley in the rear)?

no rear PTO on either of them.

I know it's not a cheap option but I want the Hydro Drive and lift for tilling the old 214 does fine for tilling but take a long time to get turned around and I'm tired of the manual lift.

I know I'll be looking for the rear PTO option.

Talking to the guy I got it from was built by his father in law who ran a allis chalmers dealership in the 60-70-80s. Neat little trailer it dumps and has swing down rear gate. High floatations tires and was only $100.

She painted allis orange!

It's matches good to the Honda 200sx!

Ben in his yard shed for 20 years and he has no use for it now.

I'll have use for it that is for sure!

so a few weeks ago, when I went to close the garage door the bracket that holds the cable snapped off and the door jammed and #$#$%#$%#$

got the door up and left it open for a day or 3 then had bad weather coming in High winds and hail and didn't want to risk the car getting hit. and didn't have time to shuffle the car into the other side and tuck it away from the door. So I got the door down and there its been for the last 3 weeks.

Got the New bottom door brackets and now to get the door back open and put the new brackets in hook up the Torsion Cables and have a working door again.

that way I can get the tiller out of the garage and till the garden up so the wife can get the garden planted and be happy!

so start off is to get the door back open pry it up a bit with a 2x4 and leverage.

2nd step borrow your dad's tractor and forks to lift the door up and use a 2x6 across the forks to spread out the load and not put a crease in where your lifting the door from.

then when door is 1/2 way open replace the bottom brackets.

open door all the way rewind the cable around where its suppose to go and attach to the new brackets and wallay! you now have a working garage door again. Not a bad night's work!

it nice to have a working door again!

Sub: great fix on the garage door. I must have replaced 6 of those heavy duty springs on our old single car garage doors during the 25 years we had the old doors on our house before we finally replaced with new doors and hardware.

nice work borrowing the tractor with the forks and good thinking to put a board on the forks to protect your door.

it also looks like you did ok at the auction your uncle had a few of his old tractor mowers at.

Yep I hit a home run at the auction I would have been happy to get just the non runner for $400 or so I never dreamed I would be able to walk away with both.

but I added a whole lot of tinkering time to my schedule to get them where I will want them to be. But having fun stuff to work on gets me out and in the shop to work on things I suppose!

got lucky I didn't clip the back of the car with either the board or the forks on the way up with the door. I was a lot closer to the back of the car than I wanted to be but like was said in Fast and Furious it don't matter if you win by a 1" or 1 mile winning's winning.
so I missed the back of the car by 3-4 inches with the board and 5-6 with the forks but missing is missing so no harm no foul.

I have had the car for 19 years now and only added 2 small scratches to it in that time so I think I'm doing pretty good over all!

Garden is not dry enough but if/when it is I can at least have the tiller there ready.

Plus I need to haul folding chairs to town this weekend for friends graduation party.

Big truck is ideal for that but if it's stuck behind broken door it hard to use!

Some times, well a lot of times its fix this due that so you can now use this or that to due this or that!

It's like just in time inventory!

Or that's what I tell myself!
