In the picture Wisconsin Academy is mentioned.
My youngest sister went to a Wisconsin Academy back in the 80's in Columbus I think.
Same one???
This one is in Stoughton WI.

They had up on the wall pictures of Kids who had been at WA and then the college that they have went on to play at. Was kinda neat to look threw the pictures of the different kids.

Under a wind advisor today at my place. Winds at 50 to 60 gust. The shack sure was a rattling and banging today during the boil.

That stove I replaced the 90 on. I fired it up and all it would due is get to a slow boil. Most times the Basement stove will run the best. I leave the Ash pan pulled out and have 3 computer fans in the ash try pushing air into the fire box. But today the wind was blowing right at the stove pipe end. Thinking the stove didn't get a great draft going and not able to burn hot at all. With the wind blowing that hard and my drafty sugar shack it was working against the way this stove want to work.

My barrel stoves at the far end ran nice and hot but they had the wind pushing into them and assisting the draft.
I have a duct fan in the peak of the shack at the far end to help draw out steam and such which works again the basement stove draft but most times it still seems to work fine.

Good lesson to know when High winds from the West the Basement stove not gonna run great if at all. Heck though I have only fired up the basement stove 4 times in the last 2 years. I have ideas to seal off the Fire Box better for the pans to sit on top and get a tighter seal to the pans at this stove seems to make alot of smoke when I first fire it up.

Only have so much free time, or ambition to work on things is more like it.
Due I seal up the basement stove fire box to the pans better or due I make up a forced air system for my barrel stoves and be able to run them better?

Maybe some moveable baffles to make the wind work for you instead of against.
I could try that but I think I need to get the pans to seal up better and keep the smoke going where I want it to go. and to let the heat build up better for cooking sap.

Or I need to replace the whole stove. Its setup backwards to how it should be but that is the only way I was able to fit it into the sugar shack. For what I need it to due it does okay. Not many day's that I gonna be cooking with High Winds like I had yesterday. and I need to close up the front of the shack so I don't make a natural draft that works agaist how this stove trying to run.

Its still way way better than just cooking outside like I had done for 3 years.

So suppose to get 5 to 8 of snow tonight and I have a commute tomorrow of 60 miles for work with a be there at 6.30 am

My drive breakdown is 2 miles back road to highway then 5 miles of 2 lane then 45 miles of 4 lane then 8 miles threw madison WI either belt line or right down threw town.

I either take the 2017 f150 and just lock it in 4x4 the whole trip or wife's 2016 ford explorer awd but only the defrost works so my legs freeze. Or my 2014 ford focus that has good winter tires on front.

Only been driving this for the last 3 weeks. Im in correctional officer training and they are big on being on time.

My plan is get up at 4am see what there is for snow on the ground if 4" or less ill take the car. If its more than that I'll take the truck. Either way probably leave home at 4.30am so I have plenty of time to get there.

Normal roads this is a 65min trip.

But you get stuck behind somebody going 35mph on the 4 lane your stuck at that speed.

Thanks for your thoughts on this

When doing the final boil it kept wanting to foam up and boil over the sides on my woodstove cook top. I figure out if I slide the pan off the stove some the boil went slower. I cant really turn the heat on the stove down, I tried I closed down the air intake damper is about all I can due there's no damper in the stove pipe at all to choke the fire down that way. Most time you want to burn as hot as you can.

I had the Syrup foaming up and my murphy cup said I still need to keep boiling but if all it wants to due is boil up and foamover the side of the pan. I came up with sliding the pan off the front the stove some so it didnt want to boil has hot and fast. I tried stacking the pan on top my fire bricks that most time I set them on the side of the pan to help hold heat in. Didn't want to hardly boil on top the fire bricks and so I say's to my self lets just slide the pan off the front the stove a wee bit and pray that I dont knock it off and spill all the syrup. Pics about 40 seconds apart. First Pic is about 20 seconds from boiling over. 2nd Pic is it still boiling slow but not doing the foam up stuff.20260321_092422.jpg20260321_092028.jpg

Do you vacuum seal (process) your "canned" syrup?

I assume this syrup making is a "for profit" venture vs hobby?

Neat to see how it is done.
The syrup gets put into hot sterile jars.
Wipe the rim of the jar with a clean wet towel.
You then put a hot lid on (put them in a pan of water on the stove, you dont need to rapidly boil the lids just make sure they are hot) and put on a ring on tight.
Do one jar at a time.
Jars should pop (seal) within a few hours.
Let set 24 hours. Remove rings. Label. Enjoy

Not factoring in cost of material, wood.gas for atv any of that. Syrup sells for $10 a pint so say $300 if I sold it all. I have easy 30 hours into boiling so im making 10$ a hour. Take expense for supplies bucket liners.,jars,Tank of propane for fast fire starts, more like its 5$ a hour.
More of a hobby I guess i.might sell 10 to 15 pints. Rest will get used by family and friends. As barter for goods and services.

Some of my hours are just sitting in the shack making sure said shack dosent burn down from
The boil. First year of the shack had 2 walls on fire this year had the door post smoking from the wood stove. Poured water down post stopped smoking
Also making sure I don't run a pan out of sap and burn it up. Done that already a a well got busy talking to uncle outside of shack burnt up what was left of 15 gallons. It tasted burnt no saving that batch it got mixed in with the chicken feed the chickens bought it was great though.

Syrup look great and we’d buy it all if you were closer. Is it pretty sweet and delicious on pancakes or waffles?

My bride put a big wood spoon on top of pots to keep stuff from boiling over so since your pan is so big maybe a big piece of cedar kindling instead of a spoon?

Hassles with snow and driving anywhere from bet come with the territory so best of luck with any future trips and maybe no more snow til November.

Looks like the kids are doing well so keep up the super dad routine til they become adults which looks like it is pretty soon

How much for the Mopar?

Martin
What is your best offer?

60K would make me think hard about it. its maybe a 30K car at best.

68 RT Clone with a 440 auto, Needs some interior work Head Liner Drivers side seat has a rip. Radio Not working,
this just off the top of my head right now.

Needs a real good tune up. Started Life as a 383 and dark green in color was repainted in 1999.

I'm just being realistic about it. Me and the Wife went on the first date in the car and also was at our wedding as well.
So its got some heavy family ties and such. I dont need to sell or want to at all. It lives in a garage now and not really had to sit outside since I have had it. Plus the Junior Kid has big plans for the car He wants to drive it to the School for Home Football games this fall I think.

I was just joking. I didn’t think you had any intentions of selling it. Need to see it in a high school parking lot!

Martin
I thought so. Believe me I get asked all the time. About the car. I will again this weekend for the Garage sale. Handfull of people know about the car and that it is in the garage here. So they stop by at the yearly garage sale talk with me a bit and ask about the car and such.
I'll get asked, or in year's past I have set up for sale items in the garage where the car is at and get asked. I alway's give a answer of double what I think the car is worth. and so far have not had anybody take me serious. Though like I said 60K would make me think about it.

I dont think its worth 60K if was a true RT and number matching and correct paint yep then Okay but a Clone with half the RT stuff and non matching engine and wrong color it is what it is. I still like the car and that is all that matters to me.

Its most likley worth 30K any day of the week and if I ever really needed the cash Then it I would sell it. Heck I have standing offer from a guy about 5 miles away that He has a small collection of 20 some cars, He had a 68 Charger in High School his senior year of 1978 If I want to sell he most likley be my first call. He has Money and such that is not a problem for him.

I made the cuts on the tree for it to fall away from the twin and instead of doing that it sat back on my saw cut and leaned into the other half. With My Logging ATV and rear winch I braced up against another tree and was able to pull it off the stump with the Hope that it would fall and twist out from where it was leaning. That didn't work, Hence calling in the Uncle with the Heavy Iron to hook and pull it down. Tractor just walked it right out and down. John Deere 4040 with good rear rubber it dug a bit but just slow idle and low gear and not a problem at all.

That’s some nice wood pallets and lumber. I used to get somewhat similar ones here from a steel company.

They look nice enough to maybe build a new sugar shack or shed, but yes too nice to burn.

Bee careful cutting old trees especially rotten ones or alders. My gramps used to wrap a chain around some trees before he cut them so they wouldn’t barber chair or split and become a widow maker.

Have a grand day!!
