the wood was free from a CL add. It was 1 hour drive away and I took the car trailer and brought a full load of it home. it was all nailed up in pallet or crate stock it took me a full weekend to break it all down and I have had it for 4 years now stack up behind the car in the garage and now am finally getting around to putting it up on the walls. I be happy when I get this all done and then I'll have a spot to put a work bench in the garage. right now all these boards are stacked up where I want the work bench to be.

Sub: great RE PURPOSE to grab those boards (and a lot of work). also good motivation to get the wood up on the wall so you'll have more space in YEE OLD GARAGE.

since you'll have a spot for a good work bench and you might not want to build one check for old growth wood ones that owners tend to put to the curb or want them gone quickly for little or no money.

also i've been lucky enough to pick up a few old government steel desks and these are not "tankers", but they are built like a tank. they weigh close to 250+ pounds so not super easy to move but very nice to work on and the 3 drawers hold a ton of stuff. i've found cabinets to fit the hole/gap on the side or you can just have a couple shelves. here's a few pictures of mine and i think i own 4 of them currently. these old desks or benches are 6 foot wide and the tops on my are actually 3 feet deep so you can put tool boxes or organizers on the back of them and still have a little bench space to use.

Sub, nice to see you're still plugging along in the shop. Looks like you got decent snow this year...I suspect we passed a bit along across the lake.

Nice find on those ATVs. Getting your boys into the wrenches is an excellent idea. My dad basically forced me into fixing things as we had a 67 Arctic Cat that didn't run so well. Using it was contingent on fixing it...so I started taking it apart at 10 yrs old or so...and got it running I was the slowest of the machines in the area, but had the most fun I suspect.

Drives have a rough idea of what the work bench is gonna be.
have some 3x8 plank boards with some nice stenciling on them gonna use that and some coats of poly to make it shine nice and pretty.
though I'm a long way away from getting to a actual work bench in the garage as that area is now board storage for the inside siding project!
for now the work bench is mobile some boards on a saw horse or my ATV trailer with boards or a old table that can be moved around as well.

got some more work done on the garage wall project!

Did pretty good on Saturday, Got 3 boards up and took time to chase kids around the yard on the ATV.

First board had a nice knot on the edge that I cut so that the knot ended up on the stud so if you look through the knot hole you'll look at the stud and not the insulation not a big deal to many but I glad I did it that way.

Sunday was more Chasing kids around on the ATV outside and only got 1 board up for the whole day!

It seems like I spend 2x amount of the time prepping the area's before putting up the boards. Prepping is adding in 1/8 insulation 3x layers to fill out the wall cavities and putting up the vapor barrier.

I have the 1/8 insulation stuff on hand and that's the only reason I'm putting that up is because I have it and it's free. it was from the bottom of a pool from the old house in town that the wall collapse in and I took out.
with the amount of time I have spent on the 1/8 insulation I don't know how free it is but once its used up I wont be having it in my way any more.

My goal is to get this wall done and them I'm off on more outside different projects for the rest of spring summer but then for next winter I'll park the car and truck along the completed wall and have the other wall free to be worked upon!

darn Mice are always a problem in the garage that is for sure!

Traps and Mice bait are always out!

I hate all the damage that they have done to the car that is for sure I need a new head liner again some day due to Mice!

ill be busy getting these old Honda's up and running but the boys can help out with the repairs and learn some stuff along the way. Heck I'll be learning as well.

for engine oil changes I take the vehicles to the local mechanic.
Guy I have know for 30 years.

for the cost its hard to due that work myself and come out ahead.

and to dig down a pit in this garage would be a lot of work ground is very rocky.

I have car ramps if I need to get under vehicle to due some work.

Sub: you're doing great and love the sunshine in the pictures and no blizzards cause man that isn't my type of weather.

in case you might have a few ants and haven't heard of this stuff it's safe for pets and kills the little and maybe the big ants. buy a bag and put it around your foundations on your home and YEA OLD GARAGE. and if you only have a few put these traps out that you can buy at home depot. also best to keep rotten wood and debris far away from your home and garage cause once the bugs finish eating it they look for another food source which is maybe something you own and don't want eaten.

Pic of my work table that has all the supplies for this project.

the table top is from my Father in laws dairy barn that I help take down.
It was the Blower hole just 2 short board's that was nailed together and removed when they needed to blow loose bedding into the hay loft.

any way on the table is water to keep me hydrated, couple of razor knifes for cutting the Styrofoam insulation, Scissor's for cutting the vapor barrier,
Stapler for vapor barrier box of plastic vapor barrier, tape for vapor barrier,
some raisins as a quick snack, Jig saw for fine finish cuts, Little cicular saw,
drill with bit for pilot holes and drill with driver for screws, 3 squares,
speed square, regular square and long T square, 3 levels, 4' level, 2' level and a torpedo level. 4 boxes with the screws of different lengths for what I need Little planting spade for digging out the gravel for the bottom board. and the all important Radio so I have some tunes going while I'm a working away.

any way I've rambled on enough but thought some might enjoy my work table that holds the tools for this.

Have a router as well for doing the shiplap siding part
but that is sitting over on the saw stand as it's limited by is cord!
also 2 quick clamps that hold the board on the stand for when the router is doing its work!

just been busy with work and kids and had to setup for a garage sale this last weekend so just been moving stuff around a lot!

it'll take me a month to get my ATV Shop back to how I want it and such.

no big blizzard but some small snow falls with snow for a day or 2!

so haven't' made much progress in the garage the last few week's.

so for the long winded post. : )

But Did take the Old Ford truck out for a trip last weekend.

180 miles from Start to Finish to pick up a roll top desk that the wife wanted.

the Old girl made the trip without any problems. But you take a 40 year old truck on a road trip your always just a touch nervous I suppose. The weather was cold "temps at 30-35" and about 1/2 way into the trip the good roads start to turn a little slippery and the truck has oversized tires on so she handles like a freight train on skates. Had the heater cranked the whole trip and drove with gloves on for 3/4 of the time. Wife had a blanket wrapped around her for the trip.

GPS lead us on few country back roads that was Ice covered and that is fun and all when you know the roads but when you've never been on them before it can lead to a little more pucker factor. Hills and corners are not a great combo when ice is involved.

got the desk picked up and on the way home with no problems.
2nd to last big hill to climb on the way home road is now Ice covered and pretty slick the truck broke traction 2x times on that hill and coming up is a hill that gains about 400' in 2 miles or so from what I can tell on a GPS site, I stopped at the bottom and turned the Hubs on the truck in just in case I needed the traction to make the climb. Truck did fine up the hill broke traction 3-4 times let off the gas and get rear end lined back up and ease back onto the gas. Made the climb at 30mph give or take but glad I stopped to turn hubs in didn't want to be out in traffic in middle of the hill locking the hubs on the truck in not to mention trying to find a spot the truck will sit with out sliding down the hill on me.

Sub: what no picture of the roll top? nice to hear you survived and i bet there were a few hairy moments when the tires started spinning.

sounds like you thought out the issues well regarding hills and ice and you are smart enough to know that 4 wheel drive doesn't mean anything if you are on ice and on a hill or trying to stop.

I hope your weather improves soon cause I bet at some point snow is a pain even though you are used to it. it's sunny here today and supposed to be 60 after a week where we got about 5 or more inches of rain.

there is a lot of extra ventilation from age that is for sure.

though the Temp gauge was in Normal and still the heat coming out of the vent wasn't super hot. Not a huge deal as the truck doesn't get used in super cold weather very much.

It was my Daily Driver for one fall season and 1/2 of a winter but then It lived in a heated garage and was somewhat warm for the morning drive. The drive home was cold but then the trip home was only 3 miles from work to home so I just dealt with it.

If the roads where better I would have took my 2 place trailer and hauled the desk that way but then I would have to tarp it over and secure it down to the trailer. The old truck was just load it in the back and put some blankets over it and away ya go!

okay back to regular stuff or at least as close as I get.

I feel like I'm driving Miss daisy or something?

Don't know why at all but was moving some cement bags down to the Stream bottom for a future project and this was my passenger.

Bags of cement that got for free and going to be the bottom of the ATV Bridge across the Creek. the top 4 served as my winter box weight in my little truck to help keep traction for the winter snow season. they are all somewhat chunky as they sat outside in the rain all last spring summer and started forming up so not good for much but thinking I can use them as floating piers for the bridge beams when I get that far.

then on the return trip home stopped on the big hill out of the bottom and picked up 2 milk crates of rocks to add to last summers rock wall project.
Sure did make the ATV rear squat adding that weight to the rear rack.

have been working on the garage inside siding project as well and making some slow and stead progress on that as well.

have to due some fancy cutting get a board to fit in this spacing.

and then the long view is starting to look pretty nice or at least better than just studs with insulation stuffed between them.
