John Deere 140 work today since outside temp is in singe digits,
Got this John Deere 140 not running and slowly been working on getting it going.
Wire Harness was messed up still sorting that out as well but first goal was to see if engine even turns over.
The Starter was just hanging by the Starter wire not even bolted up to tractor so deductive reasoning say's may be a starter problem to get checked out. took jumper cables and put it to the starter and a whole lot of nothing.
Take Starter to rebuild shop and then comes back in a better way and works. Put Starter on Tractor and jumper cable it out and spins engine over. Making progress on things.
Next up is Key switch no key. Get correct key switch and install that trace wires and test solenid yep it clicks on/off with the Key and outputs 12V like it should so then hook up starter to solenid and then its off to the coil/point/condensor just go ahead and get a new set of them.
"iSaveTractors" Great youtube channel with awesome instructional videos that noobs like me can follow along to breath life back into a 50+ year old Garden Tractor.
Get Coil Hook up replace the Points even gap them correct hook up the condensor and leave spark plug on top of engine crank it over make sure spark plug is sparking! Yep put plug in and spray some starting fluid in the carb and cough cough wheez engine comes to life. for 3 seconds but it does run.
so now I'm up to the Carb.
Its running on starting fluid I got it to pop off and run for a few seconds so Next is hooking up the Gas Line which I don't have any of so will have to wait till I get a chance to stop at hardware store for the gas line.
Next question will be is this carb gonna be any good at all? Tractor sat in a machine shed with dirt floor from previous owner and there was no air filter on the carb so its been sitting open to dirt dust for who knows how long. Plus its been in my workshop as well just sitting with no air cleaner over the carb.
I did spray some starting fluid into the carb and turned tractor over and got it to run for a few seconds.
Am I just better off getting a replacement carb from Isavetractors and bolt it on and go or due I even mess around with the Carb that It has?
Me and Carbs Have a Love/Hate relationship I love that they work and any time I mess with them it mostly dosn't go good for me. Choke and throttle cables are both free and have full range of motion as far as I can tell.
