I have been doing as much research as I can about these sockets. I have never seen the yellow sockets in the boxes before. I have seen one here and there, but never so many in one place.... I had to have them. There is only 5 different sizes. The gentleman I purchased them from said that they were new old stock, that was supposed to be sent over for our troops back in the 60's. All of the wrapping paper in the boxes are from 62. Anyway I am curious what anyone might know about these.

Thanks for the help.

Logan

The guy wanted 6 bucks a piece, I offered him 91 for them all and he took it. I love these things but wish I knew more about them.

I will eventually need to sell some of them, I do not really need twenty or thirty of each socket. (Lets make this very clear, those are my Fiances words not mine) Anyway before I sell them I want to figure out more about them. And I am not sure how many of them I would want to split up since they are in their original boxes. Also I am much better at buying tools than selling them... So I am no good at putting prices on them, and I can not seem to find anyone else selling these style sockets. Eventually they will go on the classifieds.

"Proto-Los Angeles" makes them extra cool.

If you are not in a rush you could always set up a search agent on eBay and see if any come up over a few month.

I'm always on the hunt for Proto stuff and I've never ran across the yellow stuff. Didn't even know it existed to be honest. I'm really interested to hear what the story on this stuff is. Perhaps an email to Proto is in order.

I have already emailed proto and am waiting on a reply, I am in no huge rush, that's not a bad idea about Ebay.

Proto does have a pretty active Facebook page. You could also contact them that way. I think sometimes going to Facebook is more effective because it is more public. However, people on this board seem to detest Facebook for some reason which is pretty funny considering they spend a lot of time on a message board.

Are the sockets 12pt? I've got a proto 12pt 9/16 socket in that yellow. I've had it since the mid-80's, don't remember where I picked it up, and didn't know there was anything special about it.

I like those. They'd make as much sense today as fifty years ago to keep FOD risk to a minimum underhood.

What is the "finish material" on these...I can only assume normal paint?

Got me to thinkin...I've got a couple older craftsman wrenches which at this point have no finish left..might try the molasses trick and then prime & paint yellow...
