My friend said that his old 5hp air copressor was dieing & he was going to buy a new compressor from NT. It would start making a noise & gets hot.
He said that I can have his old deing compressor.
I said hell yea! Ill take it!
Got it home, thinking on buying a replacement copmressor from HF.
Thought to first take the head off to look for the reason for the noise & heat.
Found the top of the pistons & cylinders in perfect shape!
Found one read valve back plate had broken at the securing rivet. But no parts visable. Took the discharge line & check valve out. Found the missing pieces lodged inthe check valve.
So, noise was the discharge reed valve bouncing in the head.
& the Heat was from the check valve not seating & alowing the air to flow back & forth causing the air to heat.
Cleaned & lapped the check valve, made a new read valve back plate & put it back together. RUNS PERFECT!!!!
5hp 60 gal, for Free!
