Yes... Another Toolbox Liner Thread

So here's my problem...

As I'm sure a few of you know, I'm building my own toolbox. This has led me to come up with solutions to things I didn't know would be a problem when I started.

So the latest thing I find myself facing is the question of drawer liners. I have such odd shaped drawers that I'm having a hard time figuring out what to use.

I had intended to use felt, and may still go that route, but after thinking about it, I realized the felt will probably wear quite fast, and I don't relish having to redo 29 drawers all over in a few years.

My biggest hurdle is the depth it seems. I have seen many of you use materials that work well, however I have drawers that are 27" deep. Alot of the drawer liners I see are all in the 18" - 20" range. Now I know that Snap-On, Mac, Matco...etc sell boxes that have that drawer depth, but I was always under the impression that they are pre-cut for the box in question. If I could get liner material in say 36" x 48" chunks then that would do it.

So.... any ideas anyone?

I like the black floor runner they sell at Lowe's, Home Depot and probably most hardware stores and carpet centers... Relatively, cheap and you can cut to fit; if it isn't wide enough, just use duct on the backside to extend the width of the two pieces... its indestructible, can be cleaned, degreased, doesn't bunch up like foam and will probably be the last liner you will ever buy!

I've used yoga mat's before , they work for me . You could custom cut them , and there bigger than most . Cheaper too. Just a thought .

I've been using that stuff in my toolboxes for years and have never had a problem with it. It's priced reasonably too.

cardboard is a good choice
really good if dry

IMHO, cardboard is fine . . . in a very dry climate, such as the intermountain west. Because of deliquescence, in the midwest-to-deep-south, uncoated corregated cardboard usually rusts anything steel or iron laying on it. Your results may vary.

Someone posted here a while back a site to buy yoga mats in large rolls, don't know if its wide enough. Someone esle posted buying yoga mats at 5 Below (a dicscount store where everything is $5. or less). Picked on up over the weekend to test before buying a 100' roll. I'll let you know how it works. What I got at 5 below was only 24" wide.

That was what I understood as far as the yoga mats went.... 24" wide was the max!!

These work...anti-slip mats, perfect also for drawer liners..... unfortunately not the cheapest way...

They sell stuff like that at Wal Mart for lining shelves. It's like 5 bucks for a big roll of it, lots of different colors, but black looks best IMO.

I got a roll of 36"x100' toolbox liner off of ebay. It was the perfect amount to do my 4 vidmars which are 27"x30"x60" and 11 to 13 draws tall. I think I paid $40 shipped.

Considering you are in IL...

Someone here recommended the cheap carpets/mats that they put on sale at Menard's for almost nothing. I bought one and it works great. That carpet is not that fuzzy and I have not had any issues as long as I don't put in dirty tools.
