I recently acquired a Monarch Vise from an older mans estate after he passed.

It is a Monarch No. 222, Prentiss Vise. It has 5.5 inch jaws.

I can not find any info about this vise online.

Does anyone know what year range, value etc this vise would be from?

It has a good bit of very light corrosion with only a few spots of heavier.

I'm planning to strip it down and refinish it and put it back to work soon.

Monarch's are VERY nice. If you cleaned it up and put it on eBay, I wouldn't be surprised if it sold for $300.

Monarch's are very desirable but were actually one of Prentiss' value brand of vises. They were a bit thinner on the castings but still very good quality. The lion casting is extremely detailed and is a major factor in driving the price up.

I bought one last year on ebay, with a crack on the backside of the vise that could be considered the "anvil" on the stationary jaw and still paid over 100.00 for it.

I'm sure you did great on the price and its the largest size Prentiss made for the Monarch line

I got it broken down today.

Everything came apart very easily. Almost surprisingly easy.

Got most of the worst of the old caked on grease off. Soaking the rest in kerosene now. Going to work on the rust and maybe paint over the weekend.

The only problems I've came across are the pin that holds the main nut on is pretty bent. Will have to either replace or straighten and the nut for the swivel base is a little chewed up.

Any ideas for making a new handle for the socket for that nut?
