I went to pawnshop today looking in tool boxes and bins and found this. There is not one identifying mark on it to even give me a clue.
As you can see from the pics. The handle is knurled and the jaws seem to have light machine marks. As I twist the handle counter clockwise the jaws spread apart.
My guess, it is some kind of clamp or a badly worn measuring device as there is a lot of play in the jaws. The handle end is slightly mushroomed like it had been hammered on. The last 2 pics are it disassembled. The last one is to show machining on the jaws.

Seems you are correct. Wikipedia shows it as a french key under adjustable wrenches. I have seen many adjustable wrenches in my day but none like this.
This forum is great where else can you get such varied great information.

Yep... It's older adjustable wrench.
I remember my dad has one in his toolbox and he simply calls it a frenchman.
