So I picked up a project Lincoln 93642 series B off craigslist. With improper tools, sufficient stubbornness, and eventually reading the instructions, even I was able to get this done; it only took a month or two of buying parts and tools one at a time.
I started off by ordering a replacement vent and a seal kit. Needed a bigger wrench to get the pump off and a bigger still crescent wrench to loosen the frame enough to drop out the hydraulic unit.
Tried and failed to open the tank with a gland nut wrench and a breaker bar.
Got a HFT angle grinder and made up a socket. Borrowed my neighbor's impact and got the tank nut off.
There was a bit of a mess inside; a combination of old fluid, water, rust, and disintegrated seal parts that looked like a chocolate milkshake with coffee grounds in it. The heel plate had seized inside the cylinder. The metal backup washer was bent out of shape. Got everything cleaned up with mineral spirits.
The pump was mostly in good shape. The cover (p/n 226365) looked like someone had taken a hacksaw to it. Too bad, those seem like they're unobtainium. I got a washer and an e-clip from my LHS. Could not remove the pin for the life of me. I soaked the new seals in fresh jack oil, but the piston wouldn't budge after I installed them; I ended up putting the old seals back in.
Ordered a new heel plate and backup washer. I agonized over which way the chamfered sides should face. I eventually found references to "assemble with chamfer facing shoulder of ram"; there was no mention of eye of newt or toe of frog.
I finally reassembled everything yesterday. Loctite 518 on the tank, brushed some antiseize on the tank nut threads, put the hydraulics back in the frame, filled it up with 5606 and it worked on the first try.
