Another canadian here. I've been lurking on the site for a while, but living in an apt and working on projects out of my buddy's house garage really didn't give me any reason to post.
That changes as Nov 21st, when I take possession of this:
and more importantly for the purposes of this site, this:
which looks somewhat like this on the inside:
There's a lot of problems. This thing is old. It has two distinct sections to it, like it was added onto at the back where the siding changes. The foundation appears to have sagged. Concrete was poured on the inside like it would be for a pole barn, but it almost seems to have been poured on top of an existing wood floor or something because it is completely broken up and caved in in the middle of the floor.
The roof is sagging - understandable considering roof joists are 2x4 running the long way. The structure is leaning - out of square 4" at the front. The back is close to 12" drop from the front.
I hope to salvage it for a year to a couple of years as I need the space to put things and tools for renovating the house - which has it's own set of problems - and then replace it with a 24x32 very similar to Xander's build.
We will see. First order of business will be to support the roof a little better and then start pulling the walls square again and sheathing front and back to keep it standing straight.
I'll start a project thread once I get in there and start pulling stuff apart. It will definitely be a little slice of garage archeology pulling it apart and figuring out the little details of how this place ended up the way it is.....
