Like many here, I have a project that I'd ideally use light blue hammered paint on.
From what I've read online, Hammerite has gotten out of that business and Rustoleum is having issues producing many of their colors, specifically the blues and greens (and reds).
Rustoleum silver hammered is still available. I reached out to Rustoleum customer service to see if they had a tinting recommendation. The only thing they recommend is mixing various colors of their hammered paints. Since basically they only offer shades of grey and brown, plus "Grizzly" green, that's pretty limiting.
Has anyone successfully tinted the Rustoleum hammered paint? It shows on their MSDS as a "modified alkyd". Having never played with tints, I'm not sure experimenting is going to be prudent without more to go on.
It looks like the hammered silver is available in quarts just about everywhere, and I can get the hammered green in quarts online. So maybe I can mix up something close to the Verde Green they used to offer, although buying two quarts when I really only need about a pint of paint seems like a waste. And it's not really the color I want. Plus it's not like the stuff is $5/quart anymore.
Anyone have experience tinting hammered or even alkyd paints that could offer up suggestions? Like what types of tint to use and maybe a product line that has a good reputation?
OTOH, if just blue tint was the issue, it seems like Rustoleum wouldn't be having a problem producing the light blue paint everyone wants. Maybe there's something else going on?
