The troy-bilt looks better.

Pressure alone isn't enough enough to clean, you also need to flow enough gallons to actually move dirt.

I got my ryobi DIRT cheap on clearance and so far I am very pleased with it. The pump isn't that good because it's an axial pump (aparently the triplex plunger styles last twice as long... but I don't know much about them so I have no idea what the difference is)
However, the motor is a real gem.. a robin-subaru OHC
I think when this pump dies I will probably replace it with a better pump.

I have the troybilt 2200 psi from Lowes. It works good for paint prep, deck and concrete cleaning. Just don't let people know you have one... Mine has been borrowed on a few occasions.:lol_hitti

I think that I'm actually going with one that I saw in Home Cheapo today. I'd have just bought it, but the back of my truck was full of peat moss...

Anyway, it's an Excell with a 5.5 hp Honda motor. 2.2 gal/min (I think) for $299.

Thanks for the advice though....It would have been nice if HD had put this model on their web site (which I'm sure you know - *****!).

I have an Excell 2700 with a Honda 6.5hp. The owners manual states the pump must be lubed with 30# non-detergent oil. The pump not the engine. I asked my tractor man and he said 30# detergent oil will cause extreme foaming. Non-detergent oil is hard to find around here. I did have luck at a Farm&Fleet in Benton Harbor,Mi. The pump is made in Italy. The only thing made in America was the Bill.

I bet its a ANNOVI REVERBERI (AR pump). They make a very good pump. I have had no trouble finding 30 non-det at the auto parts store.

Toolman yes it is an Annovi pump. I'm glad to hear that they are decent pumps. Not knocking Honda engines. The engine was probably made in the US but it's still a Japanese company. Rather than getting gouged by an American company, we have the privilege of getting hosed by a foreign company.

I own a ¾ HP electric pressure washer to wash my vehicles; but needed something with more power to wash clean the aluminum siding of my new house and pole barn. After researching many units, I decided on Purchasing a Troy-Bilt from Lowe’s http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=productDetail&productId=188034-348-20242&lpage=none. It produces 3,000 PSI at 2.8 GPM and priced at $459.00. I opened up a new account and received and additional 10% off, along with $1500.00 worth of other merchandise I purchased that day.

Although the carton reads that it was built in the USA, the pump is made in Italy. I purchased a larger unit than what could actually do the job for me because it had a Briggs & Stratton 7 HP OHV engine. I have nothing against Honda, I just don’t want anything with that name in my garages if I can help it.

This unit has plenty of punch, and glad I purchased it. You have to be cautious when working from a ladder. The recoil action can easily blow you right off a ladder.

I wound up with the smaller version of that one. 4.5 hp B&S engine and 2.2 gpm. More than sufficient for my needs.

Thanks for all the advice.

What is it about italy that so many pressure washer components come from there? My wand is from italy. I'm going to go look at the pump right now.

Also, I don't understand what you guys have against honda. I think they are the biggest engine manufacturer in the world, and for a good reason. They make good engines. No sense debating that.
