Or you could buy a lifetime supply of Igloo coolers and just throw them away as them break.

I have one.

About the size of 48 quart Igloo. Don't think I paid what OP said but don't remember v

I go on long extended outdoor trips. Hot weather, no chance to replenish ice. I'm keeping food, drinks, perishables in it.

Works great if you follow directions. Mine keeps ice for about 4 - 5 days in hot weather.

Worth it for what I use it for.

I've got a zillion Igloo 48 quart for fish, etc.

The Yetti is sort of a specialized cooler.

If you have the special need, get one. Otherwise Igloo is fine.

They're called Cowboy/Redneck bling around here. everybody has to have one riding around in the back of the truck or you just aint cool. One of my co-workers has one and it does work, he can keep ice in it for a week in 100 degree temps.

I was always worried about somebody stealing my beer years ago. I'd be scared shitless about a $300 ice chest walking off.

They're big in the boating world around here.

If you need to stand on your cooler, or use it as a shelf or table, then something like a "high-end" Yeti works.

If you are looking to keep ice for a few days, get the 'high end' Igloo or Coleman, and it'll work for you. Just my opinion.

The best there is...but not worth the price IMO!!

+1... if life or profit's hinging on your cooler not breaking, like a river guide or something, buy one. Otherwise, well, I think everyone's covered the reasons not to.

I used the blue "7-day" Colemans in Iraq. They didn't keep ice for 7 days, but we were in and out of the cooler all night, restocking with warm/hot drinks every night, and they sat in that hot Humvee, closed up in the sun, all day long. I could go buy a huge one at Wally World for under $100, I think I paid $35 for the one I got in Iraq. It still kept ice better than any regular cooler... I could go 48 hours without adding ice and have cold drinks, most regular coolers were straight up hot after 8 or 12 hours.

So, I've been seeing all these Yeti Cooler stickers on the back of trucks lately and it had me thinking, damn...these must be some life changing coolers for people to be this excited about them. They are that into keeping **** cold that the only sticker on their new truck is a Yeti sticker.

So while I'm in Gander Mountain I seek them out to see one for myself and holy ****! $449 for a damn cooler!? and not even USA made?! (Philippines) Their heads on fire! I'm in the market for a large size cooler but DAMN! There's no way they can be worth the money. I can buy a cheap *** gas generator and a mini fridge for less than that! :lol_hitti

I just use an Engle 45...

No cooler will outperform the real deal. You'll never have wet food in an Engel, and it'll just about run on a sneeze. It's also precise, and incredibly durable.

That said, as I understand things, some Yeti coolers are made here. If you want something to throw ice in, there are other options, but it's tight competition, and the differences between the boutique brands are as yet unquantified.

There hasn't really been a proper comparison test that I've seen.

Something like that Yeti is expensive to manufacture and is sold in relatively low quantities. It ain't going to be cheap. If you need something like that, you probably already know it.

Even so, it makes a lot more sense than buying and discarding cheaper units. It's always preferable to buy once and buy for life, if you are going to use something for a long period of time.

This. Status symbol for many. The same people with a Yeti sticker on their truck will have a Costa sunglasses sticker, because you gotta have a pair of $200 sunglasses while drinking beer from your $250+ cooler. Don't ask me why a cooler is a status symbol. Beats the hell out of me, but then again I'm a real country boy, not a bro-country imitator.

One of our guys at work has one, keeps it cable locked in his truck bed. Guess insurance will cover him when somebody with a $20 pair of bolt cutters and a desire for a Yeti comes along.

They are good for those who need them for severe duty. We sell the similar K2 coolers at work but I don't see many buying them.

Yep 100% status symbol. I like them they are sweet coolers and for $100-$150 I might be interested. Otherwise not a chance.

I have the 35 model. Dont recall what I paid for it. For me it falls under the category of quality tools. Like another guy said "buy it once for life"

I agree it is hillbilly bling to most though

Are those the ones ARB rebrands? I have an older (12 years) ARB freezer fridge, it works great. I agree wet food ***** and these are truly the only way to go. They draw very little, I bet a solar float charger would keep the battery up enough without any issues. Compared to a Yeti they are very expensive though.

Depends on what you mean by "made here." Their headquarters "factory" is here in Austin, but the parts are rotomolded in the Philippines, shipped in, and then they just screw the hinges on, attach the latches and the handles, and package them for distribution here.

I have the Pelican equivalent, which actually is made in the US. Side by side with the same size Yeti on a trip to New Mexico last fall, the Pelican outperformed it. The big downside though is they're HEAVY - and when you get them full of ice and food, you're not going to want to move it around much.

I did not know Yetis were that much. Did some googlin and holy cow.

I have a store on my route that gets 24 good sized ones delivered each week, 12 on tues and 12 on Fri. Dont know the cooler size because I never paid attention, but since the box is about 24"x24"x48" has to be a good sized cooler. Even if it is the $300 unit, that is well over 350K/yr in just cooler sales.

I have three Yeti coolers and they are worth every penny. One 105 quart cooler, and two 20 quart. For day trips I use freezer packs and my stuff stays cold all day. They really shine on the extended deep sea fishing trips in Maine.

I have used the extended Igloo and Coleman and they aren't even close to a Yeti or Pelican cooler. I know this from experience not assumptions like others make.

Yeti or Pelican simply outperform any cooler on the market. We've had our yeti hold ice and drinks cold for six to seven day trips. The comparison of igloo to yeti by some on here could easily have the word yeti replaced by snap on and igloo by craftsman. Why buy snap on when a cheaper tool is just as good. No, the premium cooler isn't for everyone. It is made for those who either need or want to have the best, no different than hand tools.

six to seven day trips

I don't think anyone is debating that for those who use them as they are intended for extended trips and hard outdoor use.

I just have to laugh at those who use it as a status symbol. Much like the guys that build the mall crawler brodozers that will never see dirt.

I bought a "5 day" cooler once. Used it and returned 2 days later, there was no way it could hold enough beer for 5 days!!!

They are made in the town I work in. The best coolers made. Similar to the best tools made. You have to pay three times as much to get that extra 15-20% better. I have one. I thinks its a 32 at or something like that. My old man had one that's like the second biggest they make.

I have the Grizzly which is very similar to the Yeti, both are rotomolded, have high density gaskets and are very sturdy coolers. My wife gave me a bunch of **** (still does) over spending that kind of money on a cooler but when we are out Jeeping for the weekend and when her Diet Coke is just as cold on the last day as it is on the first day she doesn't say much.:D

The hidden gems from yeti are their insulated coozie and drinking glasses. I left a cup out in the shop which is over 90 degrees and found it the next night still had ice in it. Friend has the beer can/bottle coozie and says its the best thing he has ever bought. He says he never has to worry about warm beer again.

I use a Dometic freezer. No ice, no soggy food, and I can leave it running in my house for extra fridge/freezer space. I can grocery shop days before I go camping and leave the fridge in the truck. When we get home, none of our food is ruined and we can unpack it whenever we feel like it. Yetis are king of the hill for coolers, but a portable freezer makes more sense for my uses. Think about it; all of these Yetis riding around in trucks, boats, and RV's have access to 12v power. My dad is a cheap *** and he even bought a Dometic after taking mine on a fourwheeling trip.

Yah, $30 for a coozie and $40 for a drinking glass? Those gems can stay hidden.

I received a yeti as a birthday present. It served me very well out on the pipeline bought ice once a week in 115 degree Temps and it was not in the shade ever. Only thing I would change is I would get the white cooler vs the brown.
