You would have to have it hooked to a battery still, but a decent size panel would really help your battery life. The key is to keep them out of the sun, just like an ice chest, so they don't constantly run. My Dometic will run for a couple of days without kIlling my battery. The newer fridges also have a voltage monitor so they don't run your battery down too far.

With the transit bag (reflective film in a padded sleeve for the unit) and a good battery, you can run the thing for days sometimes, depending upon use, and still have no worries when it comes to starting an engine on only that one battery.

They don't run constantly, and the maximum draw you'll see on the 45 I run is 2.5 amps, but that will damned near freeze a neutron star. You're going to be seeing less. When it's on, it pulls no less than .7 amps.

It should run for 25.6 hours on maximum blast, constant action, on one of the batteries in the Rover, as an example. Cycling every now and again, however, is vastly different.

A solar panel will certainly offset the load, if you buy a real one.

Also, it's important to remember that it's going to stay just as cold (if not colder) for just as long as one of those fancy coolers if you turn it off and leave something chilled in there.

I got one about 6 years ago as a birthday present. Now, this was back before every frat boy in the south had one on display.

Mine has taken a beating over the years and still works flawlessly.

Just another tool. Sometimes you have to pay up for quality.

This thread cracks me up. Who cares if some people use them as a status symbol? I have the 105 on my welding rig, best cooler out there in my opinion.

I laugh at the people who ***** about the price of convenience, then they go drop 200$ on a screwdriver set because they say snap on.

If the OP is still wanting one after all this I know he wont be disappointed, between my welding rig and camping with it, its a 200 day a year cooler.

I have never had a problem with the rubber latches, and they are still like new.

Now go back to buying your new 500$ cell phones for "convenience" not a status symbols, and get rid of it a year later...Damn city folk

Yeti's FAQ states the coolers are made in the USA also.

They are made in Austin TX, just drove by the plant to get lunch.

Then what's with the bar code sticker on the bottom of the one I just looked at in a Gander Mountain store that says Philippines? No place on them do they say Made in USA. Maybe the parts are made all over and final assembly is in Texas.

$449 for a cooler is hard to swallow. I don't see any way in hell they're worth what they're bringing. I know it's hard for a person to admit that something they paid big bucks for isn't quite worth the money even if the item is excellent.......but maybe not worth every last penny. Here I'll start: my Snap On lithium ion 18 volt cordless impact isn't worth the money. Whew!! That was tough!

Guys -

Consider the volume you need as well.....
My 50 Brute is like a 40-42 (guesstimate) if I compare it to my Coleman Xtreme Marine 55?

The extra insulations does take up ~some volume~, depending on how much you intend to pack in..

I'll agree the snap on impacts ****.

As for the cooler, what do I have to gain for voicing my positive results with a good cooler?

Sorry your not happy with all items you buy, must be hard to please you. But if you ever are positive on something you buy, you can't tell your friends how good it is!!! You, my friend need to loosen up.

Why is there a constant need for members to validate there reasoning for purchasing "X, Y or Z" ? Obviously the Yeti coolers are expensive, I personally don't own one, but I've drooled over them enough to know that they seem to be built like a tank and based off the wall thickness/claims they seem to have the ability to maintain Cold temps Below what your typical cooler can do. Obviously this doesn't mean that your average day trip to the beach requires a $500 cooler to keep your soda cold, but what about a 4 day trip out on the lake or favorite hunting spot that doesn't necessarily have Ice available.

Silly..

Must be why I own three and plan on purchasing another. Maybe I need to lay down on same fancy couch and talk to a shrink and admit why my gear purchases are "not worth every penny"

Maybe I keep buying them to justify the previous one. LOL :willy_nil

Since you already have three and still want one more maybe you do need to lay down on a comfy leather couch and talk with a shrink about why you're so thirsty!

Fellas...don't take me too seriously, I'm not calling your wives ugly or anything . I was just shocked that something that doesn't go bang or fix you a sammich costs so much.

I really had no idea they were that much so when I checked them out in store I about slipped and fell. Price combined with the fact that the model I looked at was made in the Philippines did not give me a good first impression. At this price point they need to be 100% USA made.

That's interesting, since the word "Vietnam" isn't contained anywhere in that link.

Thanks for pointing that out..now pat yourself on the back, maybe take a bow.

Obviously Vietnam was brought up and I typed that by accident instead of the other third world country..

I hunt and fish hours away from stores and power sources. At times we take our atvs several hours away from our vehicles. I make fist sized ice chunks at home and add dry ice if out longer than 5 days. I have not been easy on these yeti coolers and they perform flawlessly. I'm sure those powered ones are great just not for me.

Do ATVs have charging systems or cigarette lighters? (I don't know so not being a smart ***.). Should be easily able to run that compressor cooler off that.

Yes, they have charging systems, but I'm not sure what kind of life you would get. As far as a charging port, you really only need to wire a 12v outlet off your battery. It would literally probably take 10min to do a clean job on an ATV. I have to run one on my new truck as none of my outlets are always hot.

Yes they do but you would need to keep the atv running at times. I'm not going to keep my atv running to charge the battery, or try and remember that I need to start or unplug it to keep the battery from being drained down. Ice in a top of the line cooler is super simple and allows me to enjoy my time outside without have to mess with ice or a power source.

Couldn't you use ice in the compressor coolers too? Seems like it would be the best of both worlds in that case. You could use ATV power to and from your destination to keep the ice frozen and then let it naturally defrost when you get there just like now.

I don't have either but having "real" refrigeration and or freezing capability seems like an awesome idea.

O.K. thanks for this, so keep the Arb cooler out of the sun, and the solar panel in the sun. I can do that, if the solar panels have a long cord. My Arb does have an automatic cutoff if the battery becomes too discharged. I may go to a dual battery setup in my jeep anyway, with the winch and all.

You certainly can. They make very good ice chests when you can't actually power them; far better than most, actually.
