I believe this is a step up and step down transformer, VOLTAC. Input 100V, output 0-150V. Part number 1714 Max 3A.
I found this thing in my attic and it does turn on and I think it works. I am no electrician so I'm not really sure what it's used for.

Anybody know how old this thing is? Or its value? I doubt it's worth much, but I'd rather see it go to a good home than the landfill.

$10 - $20 if someone needs one. Commonly called a variac, from trade name "Variac". Note that the output is not isolated from the mains, its an autotransformer with a sliding tap. Good looking unit, would need the line cord and the outlet socket changed to 3 wire.

My dad had one of those, home made. Called a Variac - just a variable AC power supply. Nice unit, worth a few bucks to someone with a need for such an item, like an electronics hobbyist.
