Going thru some old Snap-On stuff in the cellar I came across the 2 pictured sockets below. While looking up the F-9 Oil pan one in the 1929 catalog ( first Cat.appearance AFAIK though the date code is 28?) I noticed the "Lic. York Pat. 12-7-20" notation by the Universal Flex sockets.....So this Canadian Percy York had a residence in Duluth Minnesota...is this the same York as Mankato Minnesota Truth Tools' early socket tool line?

Interesting. I have some sockets from that time. Here's the oilpan socket. I'll check for the flex sockets.

All of which begs the following questions:
What about

patent 1498712 June 24 1924 P. York ("not known to have been produced" at datamp.org) *
patent 1498713 June 24 1924 P. York ("not known to have been produced" at datamp.org) *

Did Truth and Snap-on use the features on those two patents as well?
Is there any notation in a later edition of a Snap-on catalog that might offer any indication?

(* patent 1361130 marked "not known to have been produced" at datamp.org as well.)

ref:
patent 1361130 at datamp.org
patent 1498712 at datamp.org
patent 1498713 at datamp.org

Brian,
Perhaps YORK did a "license" arrangement similar to the way the Phillips screwdriver patent was licensed to multiple manufacturers. I found a 1922 notice of formation of a Canadian company to manufacture & market YORK wrenches in Canada -- the notice mentioned YORK WRENCH Corporation of Duluth.
Your message prompted some extra Google Advanced Book Search & International Tool Catalog Library searching, and resultant revisions in some DATAMP entries.
Regards, Stan S.

I haven't looked at the Snap-on catalog but I would suspect that with the reference to the dimensions and diameters being equal at specific parts In the patent writeup. In addition to only the 2 swivel sockets I see there being the 1/2 Dr. One marked 1/2 for size and the other matching the measurements of a 3/8 one in 3/8 drive that these 2 in particular were close enough to warrant at least a mention 20241008_234741.jpg
