Good Afternoon,

I wanted to ask the experts, while I am impatiently waiting for my HVAC/builder folks to return my calls & texts requesting help. Also, I have an engineering background, so my curiosity is also being challenged.....

I have a York Affinity Heat Pump, installed February 2015. I have had multiple Error Codes for this unit and since Saturday, I hear the outdoor unit compressor running, but the fan is not. Outside temps ~ 30F to 55 F over the past few days.

Outdoor Equipment Fault Fossil Fuel Mode Steeing Error - FFUEL Jumper in the off position with bonnet sensor present
Outdoor Equipment Fault Defrost Jumper Error - Invalid jumper setting prevening compressor operation

It appears that the thermostat only holds the logs for about 1 year. There is NO Fossil Fuel connected to my Heat Pump.

Thank you in advance for your help!
Mike

Only the first 3 logs occurred between 4/7 & 4/9....the remainder are spread over the past year.

What stick out to me is the power input requirement errors. I would check that out before proceeding with any mechanical diagnostic

What is the appropriate time frame for an HVAC company to respond to my voicemail? I called the builder/installing HVAC Company this morning leaving messages and the HVAC company that stepped in last year when I had an issue, twice this afternoon.

The liquid line temp sensor is just a PTC thermistor. It can be unplugged from the control board and ohm'd to verify functionality.

A heat pump always shuts off the outdoor fan during defrost. But a failed outdoor fan that is never running could contribute to system pressures being high and thus the high pressure switch trips you are seeing.

I'd just switch the system over to emergency heat and give the contractor a chance to check it out, a few days of electric heat at relatively mild temps you are having isn't going to break the bank, running a unit with issues could cause some expensive damage.

New log:
4/10/2018 7:19 AM Outdoor Equipment Fault High discharge line temperature

HVAC guy came out & believes the issue is with the fan controller (multi-speed fan). Has to order parts. System placed in Emergency Heat Mode until the parts are here.

Let them throw parts at it, you should have a parts warranty for 10 years on that. Not sure what your labor warranty with the original company is. Weird that the installing company wont come out.

Labor warranty is through York. Found out the original HVAC business is no more.

Does sound like a fan problem -- many of the newer units have separate inverters for the motors. They use different types depending on compressor -- even many of the two speed motors use inverters vs separate windings. The motors have soft start and ramp up to minimize noise.

Still waiting for a return call that the parts are in and to set up an appointment for the install. Left messages 2-3 times. Running the damn Emergency Heat...

Just a General Gripe...

Why don't businesses call back? If you don't want my business, just say so and I'll make other arrangements. :willy_nil:headshake:Twitch:

Replaced the control board, fan motor, fan controller, and added something to the freon to avoid coagulation. Appears to be working correctly now.

Apparently, the HVAC guy called & left me a long message.....on the wrong phone number. Oh well... hopefully all we need to do is system pm from this point on.

Something related to the control board, fan motor, fan controller, or coagulation in the freon?

So what was broken?

The fan was not turning -- no air over coils. Overheat.

It sounds like they just replaced everything that could cause the problem. Not uncommon -- we look at things from a retail cost .. companies know the real cost ... labor is the expensive part of the equation

In speaking with the HVAC guy, it sounded like he was required to speak to a York/JC representative for approval & they added the board & the additive to the parts list....I'm guessing because it was a warranty claim.
