York bench vise value?

So I've had this bench vise for over 20 years now, was left at a house I bought in 2003. It is a tank, feels like it weighs 50 lbs. Opens up to almost 6" wide.
My heavy work is behind me, so I now have a more manageable sized bench vise that I can take in and out of the hitch adapter bolted to my bench. I wasn't planning on selling it for much, but quickly looked online and see prices all over the place. One was like $350, another almost $500 lol. It works perfectly and would be great for someone who needs this sort of size. What would be a good price to sell on Marketplace or local? Just needs to be cleaned up a bit.

York is the forerunner of the Wilton Bullet; they're good vises, but I think numbers like $350 and $500 are pretty optimistic. And the York name doesn't attract the same attention as Wilton. Present condition? I'd start at $250 and keep dropping the price $25 each week.

No idea on value, but before placing an ad it wouldn't hurt to clean it up a bit ( I don't mean any restoration efforts, just maybe a wipe down with some solvent to remove grease and grime.)

I have a few vices that cost less than a hundred dollars and they work great. They hold things I cut, fold, burn, weld and other masculine things to. Having a $400 vice seems silly because I would destroy it. I've got work to do. LOL

I have a nice 6" Woden vise, made in England on my main bench. It gets lots of use but if I'm going to cut or weld something, I use the disposable no name vise on my welding table. I destroyed one of them already, throw in scrap pile, buy another cheapie!

The York doesn't open as wide, hence the shorter bullet part; why they did it that way, I don't know.

I think it still be hard sale at 250, only people that appreciate these is US older guys. New generation just don’t appreciate us made products. We live in world of make cheap then throw them away.
BUT: A buyer who knows his stuff will want pictures of jaws, so hi lite that and brag about how good they are

When I was in the market for a big-old vise 15 or 20 years ago, that would have been a 350 vise. I haven't checked prices recently....but I respect what those above have said....prices have likely dropped. Start high but be willing to drop the price to someone that comes and looks at it and makes a solid offer.

Don't drop the price one cent for the text that says "What would you take for it?". I always tell those guys, "Come look at it and see why I think it's worth that. If you don't think it's worth it, make a firm counter offer and I'll consider it."

That approach has always worked for me. Someone standing in front of me with cash, I'll bargain with. Someone on a FB Messenger trying to get me to lower a price and maybe they'll think about it? No way.

Thanks guys. Yeah, I hate dealing with people on FB and know I will have to bump the original price up a bit since they're going to ask for 50% off anyway. Lately when I clean the garage and find some things that I could probably sell for 5-10 bucks, it almost seems better to just pitch them out, less stress than dealing with some of these buyers.

Wish you were closer, I'd be happy to buy it. If I were selling it, I wouldn't take less than $150. The only real measurement that matters is the one you missed Vises are typically listed and sold by jaw width.

First off that vise is in just ok condition. It looks like it has 5" jaws. It looks like it's also missing the original base locks. You can also see that it has a very small handle for the jaws. The jaws look ok and I don't see any crack repairs so that's good too. IMHO that vise is worth maybe $100.00 at best. It's not collectable like a Witon and it's not built all that well.

Thanks for the info. I know nothing about them, just know I've had it for years since it was left with the house and it weighs a ton.

There is usually a number on the side of a York vise that indicates the jaw width in millimeters. A "100" is about 4 inches.
