I wanted to see if you guys could help me out.
My york furnace was making an unusual noise from the ducts. I went downstairs to check on it and noticed the light was a slow blinking amber.

According to the manual, this indicates normal operation with call for heat.
I am unsure as to whether I should call for service. The unit is heating just fine.

Is there anything that I can do, or is the unit ok?
Thanks in advance

You might want to have someone take a look at it. We had a furnace once that somehow had the igniter miss aligned. The gas would have to build up before it would light, made some racket some times. If left that way it might have become dangerous.

If you are unsure, maybe pop off the front cover of the furnace and look for anything obvious, if not call somebody.

Ok, I noticed a small leak coming from the fireplace. A regular wood burning, not gas. I placed a towel in there about a week ago. Then last week, when I heard the noise, I remembered that I placed the towel inside.

I removed it, and no longer hear the noise on start up. Could this possibly be related? I am wondering if the ducts are somehow connected, even though the fireplace is not gas fired.

Thanks in advance.

Ok this furnace does it have a metal flue pipe and if so is the metal flue pipe tied into the chimney ? Do you have a carbon monoxide detector ? The only thing I can think of tieing a gas fired furnace and a wood burning fireplace together would be the gas fired furnace being vented into the chimney which was common years ago. Today we are required to put a chimney liner into the chimney if we vent an 80% furnace into it .

Rick,

Being a novice, how can I tell?
The home was built in 2007. Is there a way for me to look to identify?
Again, thanks

Thanks. You were right. Being a newer home, it does have this as protection.
I am going to call the service company.

Again thanks

Vibration? Where in relation to the fireplace is the furnace? Under it? Is it when the inducer comes on? Blower cycling?
