I would pay 65-75 for the vise it's a good one but looks well used to me. The handle is straight looking to me so that's a plus in my opinion.

thats the first thing i seen the handle was not bent the guy tried to clean some of the paint off he said there was a lot on it, I can get it for $50 and another $15 in gas if the jaws are smooth and no screws visible it probally has a lot of use I am not familiar with this vise do the screws come out from under the jaws like a parker

I forgot to add that in my first post that the jaws look cast in place to me and are not removable/replaceable.

so I would have to cut a step out of it with the mill if I wanted serrated jaws on it then

:shocking:

Maybe you might consider drilling/tapping a few holes and adding straight/flat jaws rather than chunking up the original ones? Any cannibalism to such a beautiful vise would be a shame, but if it's got to be done...

You can mill the vises in fact autopts has had a machinist mill out a ledge for the jaws to sit on and drill and tap holes for wilton bullet style jaws. The vises he has done that to have come very nice. However they lose a little of the vintage look but what you gain in serviceability is very nice. Here is a picture of one of the vises auto converted.

I fully support milling out old busted jaws and tapping it for wilton replacements. It's not a work of art. It's a tool! Making it more functional is an improvement in my opinion.

I have never owned a yost, but some of the older vises have tapered pins holding smooth jaws in place-might want to clean er up first to see if they are truly cast in place. two day soak in apple cider vinegar & wire brush will tell thetruth!:dunno:

Besides the obligatory "YOU ****"

I would really like to see you clean that up real nice before you modify it. That would make a fine addition to any garage and you are in it so cheap that you could buy another used vise of a newer vintage that you may not have to change at all. Its your vise and I would certainly support which ever way you go, but once they have been modified they just aren't the same old vice.

Just my 2/10 of a dollar.

well the guy i got it from told me he found it in the road i looked it over pretty good i did not find any breaks or cracks and it swiveled ok, after further inspection i can see what happened when it fell off Truck or Trailer it must have fell perfectly flat on the base because there is not one mark on the vise to think otherwise.
after i paid him i asked him what the story was behind the vise,
this should be fun to fix time to try out some 4130 cast alloy mig wire
one pic the flash came on
