Hello,

A long time friend has offered to give me either a Yost 32C or Reed 2CA. Both are 2-3 years old and have never been used (still in the box). Would one be a better choice then the other?

I'd take the Reed which is actually a Columbian.

That's a good friend and both vises should be top quality.

As far as anyone can tell Columbian has been killed by it's parent company so parts won't be available for that Reed, unless Reed has some.

Yost has been makng the 32c in Tawan since early 2016, so I suspect this one is made in Taiwan.

Both vises have the same pipe capacity.

The 32c has 6" max opening where the 2CA is 5"

The 2CA has a little taller throat at 5.37" vs 5".

The 2CA weighs 60 lbs, the 32C is 67 lbs.

I have used both brands of combination vise. I prefer US made so that would lean me towards the Reed vise. But check the Yost box and see if it lists country of origin.

Both are good vises and I agree if one of the boxes says MADE IN USA that might be the one i'd like. if they are both new i'm guessing they would cost a few hundred each so you have a good friend.
