After much thinking and some help from the folks here I finely pulled the trigger on a NEW vise. I have a well used Wilton cadet and a Combination M 4.5" non swivel base. http://www.yostvises.com/made-in-us...-reversible-combination-vise-swivel-base.html I chose the Yost partly because it was US made and also I like the thought of flexibility of this vise. I could find very little info on this vise so it was a little scary to order. I got it from northern tool for $200 in Dec.
The Vise is very well machined and is a pleasure to see,and use.
I waited till now to post as I wanted time to use it and try out the different configurations. I first used it to start to make a rail line anvil . I then used it to rebuild a power steering pump , along with a bunch of stuff normal for a shop.
I can tell you all this is $$ well spent. I have to admit I felt the reversible configuration may have been a gimmick but after using the anvil stand to rest things on all I can say is I will never go back to a Normal vise again. The only complaint is while the web site and paperwork say USA the casting on the side of the vise dose not.
Great now my pictures will not load!! I'll post when I find out what is wrong with my camera Sorry all Regards 2Diesel john

I have been looking that vise over a lot. I'm not ready to upgrade vises yet. I'm going to wait to upgrade my benches first. I glad to hear good reviews, I don't remember there being much if any on northern's site and didn't get much imput a while back when I posted about the exact same vise a year or so ago. To me those are an unheard of price for a USA made vise brand new.
