It’s a little troubling that the title says FSV and also ADI, because they’re different vises. The FSV is forged, made in Taiwan, and identical to the Capri vise and probably several others. The ADI is cast, and made in China, but I guess the selling point is it is allegedly “stronger”. Both have lifetime warranties.

I think this price is for the FSV-5 not the ADI-5, but the 6 and 8 inch models are probably the ADI line.

I could be wrong but from what I understand they no longer make the FSV-5 an the ADI-5 was it’s replacement?

Yeah, don't know why Cynical thought it might be the FSV. It says the listed ADI versions are superseding the previous FSV versions.

I wish these were non-swivel. Really wanting a pair of well supported non-swivel without breaking the bank. Ah well. Man can dream.

I’ll just be using it for general work on cars and motorcycles here and there and occasionally rifles maybe. What would be the benefit of a non swiveling vise?

Overlooked the word superseding in the title actually.

Based on the description and model number, it certainly appears to be the ADI model.

It's mainly just the rigidity... also I just want two :lol_hitti
They tend to have a bit more length in the opening and have no chance of moving (considering the vise is bolted to the surface rather than clamped to the swivel that is bolted) when hitting or applying a fair bit of pressure. I just always wanted them really though. I buy too many tools.

I might just try making my own at some point.

Valid points all around.

The ADI-5 and 6 has a toothed/geared swivel base. It won't slip. Remove it if you want and bolt it down

I have the ADI-6 and removed the swivel base and have it bolted directly to the bench. Works excellent.

Like I said, nitpicky reason. I really do need to pickup a welder sometime and learn to weld a bit so that would be a fine project to work on. Screws could be done easily on my lathe, just need to grind down the right toolbit to get the threading. Don't need anything fancy really.

Should probably get another job first though...:lol_hitti
