A dear friend provided me a once in a lifetime vise, that I thought I had the perfect stand for.
After setting it on the stand, they looked crazy wrong together.
Nothing left to do but to make one that hopefully does the wonderful vise justice.

Started with the thought of a oval cross section, transitioning to round.
3-5/16" small radius and 12" big radius.

Wanting to have a bolt and tool tray incorporated in the top plate, I figured I could split and cap a 4" tube turn for the recessed portion.

Nice work on the stand. Seeing all the pipe you use it reminds me of the casing used in the oilfield when I worked in North Dakota and Colorado. The welders always made it look easy torch cutting the casing and welding on the wellheads. Do you have any experience in the oil field? I spent a few weeks up on the north slope doing well exploration back in 2012.

Thanks Lynn,
That blade is 1-1/2" X 36" for a #8 square head.
I don't think it is stock and it is the only one I've seen, I believe someone milled the groove in a stock rule blade, but not certain.

Great looking stand for that old swivel Yost Royce. It's plump round *** was screaming for the curves echoed in your stand design. They look great together and the kidney shaped tool tray compliments perfectly. Very nice job. Ed.

Royce, your fab work is so artistic and well executed it should be sold as artwork. Did you ever go to art school? If not you were born with a gift not many have. I also like your posts with step by step pics to show us how you did it all. Keep them coming.

royce...I'm seeing a trend to your projects. You use the "center-of-gravity" in a bold and interesting way.

If you were local to Chicago, you'd have both, the Steel Workers and Art Institue competing for your skills. Please keep sharing!

Ed,
You bet, curvy stand for a curvy vise

Mike,
No art school, just a desire for the better mouse trap!

Jim,
Rustoleum flat soft iron

Fierljeppen,
This was an interesting study, in that the offset of the base of the vise to the jaws, is so much longer than a conventional vise.

Thanks again to all

Royce I would like to ask what you used or how you created the 1/4 spherical ends on your tool tray? I rarely see that shape in structural pieces I can salvage. In solid and plastics somewhat available but again in structural shapes rarely/never. [I tried to form some 16 Ga. with no joy]. :( Harry
Again thanx for corrupting us! ... I mean sharing;)

I don't think I have ever seen one of those Thank You for the response Royce!
P.S. I just looked a McMaster Carr and there representations are more like the copper cape in appearance. I don't need one right now but I now have an idea what to look for, if needed. Thanx again!

The reason I noticed yours is because I have a standard 1"X36" blade to fit regular combination square heads.. The only one I have ever seen in the wild... Thought yours was one also.... have seen them in the catalog...
