So, I stopped at a garage sale that said "garage items" on the sign. As you know that usually means assorted junk. I spy a 5 gal bucket with some lovejoy couplings that I could use on a project I got going on laying on top of assorted tools that you could tell were just dumped into the bucket. I paid the lady $15 who told me she was glad someone could use the "junk" her late husband collected. I get home and dump the bucket out... I will let the pictures tell the story.

The pictures got compressed, the phone ***** to post from, if you can't tell, they are snap-on 7/16" - 1 5/8". The 9/16" looks like it got left out in the rain.

I am planning on stopping by and telling her that I flat robbed her and offer her some more coin. There is getting a good deal and then there is being a thief. I feel like I knocked over a brinks truck. Wait... the 9/16 is all rust pitted, maybe she owes me (kidding.) I will update when I talk to her.

Screw that. She said they were junk. Her own fault for not knowing what she was selling and disrespecting her husband.

Well that's an outstanding thing to do, but while those are SO, they are far from pristine, and not current production of flank drive design... so don't go too wild.

It's a good deal, but what are your plans with them? Sell them? I assume you already have a set of sae wrenches.

I wouldn't be surprised if she meant the part about being happy to see someone use it more than the "junk" part. I've got more than one screaming deal from some older folks who are only selling it because they can't see giving it to some grandkid who won't value it.

I don't hate you. Good deal for a full set of wrenches, but like mentioned above they really aren't premium wrenches on today's standards. I probably would've bought them as well, but I would be more excited about a newer set of Proto's or Wright's at that price.

I'm not going to offer 100's, I'll post pictures after I brake clean them, they are in pretty good shape outside the 9/16". I know they are not current line but still not worthless. I do have wrenches in all types and sizes being on a farm and all. Just not all snap-on. Ever priced a 1 5/8" S-O wrench? Flank drive plus be damned, once you get in the upper sizes the corners become more unloaded that the the price for features becomes less of a issue. Mills around the world are doing just fine with these. Did I mention $15?

I like fd+ for stuck stuff, but when I want a bolt head or nut to stay pretty I reach for my non fd+. There is a great amount of value in smooth jaw wrenches, esp snappy, for finish work. fd+ and others destroy polished hardware.

I constantly tell my wife to get someone who knows what they are doing to liquidate my estate when I'm gone.

She made the price. I could live with that. If I'd set the price knowing what was there I'd probably feel like I stole them and try to fix my karma.

My wife will refer to my tools as junk when I'm gone too. Not because they are but because when I use them I'm not spending time with her.

My wife shops a lot. When she's shopping she's not spending time with me (in the shop). Statistics indicate there's no chance I'll outlive her but if I did I'd have to sell her "junk" at a garage sale too.

I constantly tell my wife to get someone who knows what they are doing to liquidate my estate when I'm gone.

Some people have no desire to even mess with it. My Grandmother and Uncle wanted to call in a junker to clean out the three garages of junk my Grandfather had accumulated. In 1 1/2 years since I convinced them not to pay someone to haul it all off I've cleared closer to six figures than five. With only about 3/4 of the stuff gone now. My biggest problem is keeping her from blowing and giving away all this money she wasn't expecting.

Those are still great useable wrenches, and a big set at that. Good on you for wanting to give the woman some more money. I still do kinda hate you though!

How does that old quote go? I hope my wife doesn't sell my tools for what I told her I paid for them. She probably doesn't have a clue, and it is probably an elderly woman. Good on you OP, throw her a few more dollars. Nice wrenches.

I think $15 was a fair price. It seems the woman's priority was to get rid of stuff more so than to make money. The mark up on tools at retail prices are ridiculous anyway so don't confuse that with "worth".

Both you and her are happy with deal. I would leave it at that. You have no reason to feel guilty about anything. And who knows, if you went back to give the lady more money and she felt obligated to take it - that may make her feel guilty in some way. Best to leave well enough alone IMO

I wouldn't go back.

You'll just get her thinking and maybe feeling bad about a lot more things that she sold.

I've been going to a lot of sales recently and most of the people really just want to pass things on. The point is not to break even nor to recoup some investment. The point is to clear things out move on.

This is an item that she would have had the goodwill pick up if nobody cared for it.

Just enjoy your find.

Btw, I've recently found those wrenches for about $.50-$2 a piece so what you paid for really is in line.

$15 is a lot for the bucket, but you gotta great deal on the tools. I wouldn't feel guilty about it. My best deals have been from person(s) who just wanted the objects out of their purview. I've given stuff away that was worth money just because I wanted the stuff gone.

This statement is the worst. "FD+ destroys bolts" all i own are FD+ for the most part and they don't really destroy bolts but with that said let's get down to what should be obvious. If you're working on a polished bolt then it's visible and in an easily reachable spot meaning i can get either the closed end or a socket on it.

To each his own though. Buy what you want with your money right.

YOU ****!!!

and I hate you! but I wouldn't feel bad, no one knows the whole story on those wrenches. Maybe her hubby got a screamin deal on them too, bought in the 70's and passed from crony to crony onto him at 70's prices. No one knows.

I'd toss my old wrenches and do what you're doing, clean em up and start enjoying them. I recently sold a mint condition set of OEX 3/8 to 1" for $200 (I already have a set), so you scored big time buddy.
