Hopefully one of the moderators will talk with Ryan and I can get this stickied.

After talking with Ryan, and placing the order for my new SO boxes, I figured I would give back to the "community" by giving away two of the boxes I own now.

The two boxes I am giving away are a KRL1022 with SS top and riser in extreme Green, and a KRL1033 with SS top and riser in extreme green. Each box also comes with a power bank. These boxes were paid for THIS year. They have had a paint sealant applied, along with wax. They get spray waxed every friday. They look brand new. I've outgrown all of my toolboxes and ordered two new epiq's which I will combine into "one" to make my last and final "work" box. Each box will have a brand new set of drawer liners bought for them before I ship them out.

Here's how this is going to work. This thread will remain open from today, until the day I receive my new boxes.

The two "contests" to win the boxes are going to be "most deserving garage" and "most deserving member".

In your reply to this thread, tell me which box you are wanting and why you're the most deserving member, or have the most deserving garage.

You CAN apply to win BOTH boxes, but you will not WIN both boxes.

If applying to win "most deserving garage" please include a few pics, or a link to your own thread on here.

The ONLY rule to the game is, you CANNOT sell the boxes for monetary gain.

The winners will be PM'd by either myself, ryan or one of the other mods. The winners will also be chosen by my fiance, an "outsider". She's a therapist and can read through peoples ******** in an instant ;).

This contest is for people in the US only. Sorry for everyone else, but the shipping charges would be insane.

Anyways, good luck, and lets hear some stories!

That is so very awesome of you. I have more toolboxes than I know what to do with, so I hope you find someone who really needs this. Best wishes!

If I was willing to pay for, or offset the cost of shipping to Canada, or have it drop shipped to someone along the border, is there any chance I could be included in this contest?

All I can say with regards to "deserving" a toolbox, is simply that back in May, my wife and I closed on our first home. I went to work that day and came home early when 3 people in suits walked up, and placed the company into receivership. I didn't get a single day of being excited about being a homeowner, before I was terrified again.

A few months went by, I had no luck getting any other engineering jobs, but when one of the employees at my old job bought the assets from the bank and re-opened the company, he called me to come in once a week and do some work in the office. Unfortunately, he didn't have enough work for me to keep busy in the engineering office, so I suggested they bring me on as a toolmaking apprentice. I'm currently working out of an old hand held box and a wooden cart I push around the shop, until I get enough to buy a new box for work.

To add to that, my wife is back in school to become a personal support worker. It's wonderful, and I am proud of her. The issue is that she is 3 months pregnant with twins, and not collecting any income because of school. When the babies come, she won't be eligible for maternity pay from the government because of not collecting an income, so we will be living off my income as an apprentice, paying for two babies, a mortgage, and a car payment.

Buying a decent box for work, is simply not in the cards for a long time. I could really use this day in and day out.

Regardless of whether I get one of them or not, I just want to say that this is seriously cool, and I hope one day I will find myself in a place to help people out too. If I do get selected, I honestly am not concerned with which box I was to get, right now, anything would be helpful.

Best of luck to everyone,

Jim

Wow, awesome thing to do here. I guess I'm "applying" for the KRL1022

I'm only 19 and really trying to make it in the auto body field and hopefully move up to something better, like the local hot rod shop RPM Hot Rods. My mom died not so long ago, and money has been pretty tight. I always try helping my dad out whenever he needs it. Unlike a lot of people I know, I bought my own car, pay for my insurance, and pay my cell phone bill. Unfortunately, I just got laid off from a shop I was working at for 2 years and have been applying for loads of jobs. Right now all I have is a 13 drawer HF box which is great and all, but I still drool looking at the "Post your toolbox thread," and wish I could have something as nice as the stuff that's posted in there. Getting something like one of these KRL boxes would be almost like a dream come true, and would really help so much in the long run.

I'm sure there are people here who deserve it a lot more than I do, but I figured I'd try

Canada isn't so bad. How close to the US border are you? At your apprenticeship, what kind of tools do you use? how far are you pushing your cart around? Is it a big area?

I'm not really bad off in life, or well off so I've really got nothing to try and say that makes me "worthy" of such a gift because i'm probably not really worthy of such a thing.i'm just a kid wating to start trade school, pretty lucky one at that, that I'm getting the opprotunity to go.
.

Pretty cool of you to do something like this. I guess if you can count me in, not going to ask for a specific box.
Not sure If I can enter though, because I think shipping might be more than I could do.

So sorry to hear about your mother. It's good to see the youth of today isn't ALL bad. You sound like a good "kid" and your dream may come true.

A little advice I can give is, never give up. Follow your heart and make sure that bodywork is what you want to do forever. You've got a long road ahead of you.

PS, how far are you from IL?

You don't have to be bad off in life to enter.

All of the shipping is taken care of, by me.

Thanks man. I'm really trying to stick with it. Trying to work at it and then move up to the custom stuff.

According to Google maps, Yorkville IL is 489 miles away

Wow this is really an generous thing to do

If possible I'd like to enter my Brother in this, He's not a member but I have posted questions for him here. At the moment he is using my Grandfathers box for work ( He started at a tire place a couple of weeks ago) and it really isnt big enough to fit everything and it is really just a home-owners type box. It'd be nice to surprise him with a new one. He was/is going to get a box from menards but it's got to wait untill he gets some bills paid.

I myself use portable boxes for work mainly because I need my tools at home as well as my job and it works out great for me that way.

I am not entering the contest but will say that your offer is very generous and sure to make a couple of members very happy. One request though: how about a photo or two of the awesome prizes. Oh and of course SO bashers should be disqualified..

Damn decent of you. Though id love to have a box to put the tool set in that I'm building for my little guy, I'm sure there are more deserving members than I so I'll just say good luck to them and to you i say thank you for doing what you're doing for this community. Beyond generous.

Well.....here is my entry.I worked my *** off cleaning bathrooms on third shift for the city at the Overture center for the arts.I worked part time for a year before I was hired full time.I continued to work hard and became the shift lead worker after another couple of years.About 6months later I was laid off due to the arts center's finical troubles,The job I worked so hard for was gone in a flash.I was able to "bump" into another job witch meant taking someone else's job that didn't deserve to lose their job either,a terrible catch 22.One of my job choices was a meter mechanic with the water utility,I have always wanted to work with my hands and be a mechanic so it was a perfect fit.About one year into my new job I was involved in a motor vehicle accident when some lady ran a red light and t-boned my work van.I had a dislocated shoulder, broken arm and a torn rotator cuff.I have been off work due to my surgery to rebuild my shoulder and involved with a drawn out legal battle for close to a year now.My doc says i am permanently partially disabled and can no longer be a mechanic,So i will be stuck behind a desk for life.I enjoy working on my vehicles in my spare time and this box would really help renew my mechanics dream.I would be more than happy with either box but the smaller one would suit my small 2 car garage best.I live in Wisconsin about 2 hours from you.I would be able to pick it up and thank you personally.

EDIT:I forgot to add Extreme Green is my favorite color!!

This is a great thing you are doing!!! Best of luck to whomever wins.

Starting in 2001, my grand plan of life has been thrown one way or another by major events. On March 31, 2001, my wife and daughter where involved in a major car accident. My wife was paralized from the neck down. Still in a chair to this day. Been married at the time for 5 years. My daughter was ejected from the truck during the roll over( slipped out from under the seatbelt, but she is fine. Suffered several broken bones. Had to sell out condo since it was a garden level with stairs. Renovated part of my parents home for us to live in. Lived there for a few years.
Finally bought our own place in 03. Renovated that house, spent a considerable portion of our saving on it. A couple of years later fond an ad for physical therapy study for people with spinal cord injury. Only thing was it was in upstate New York. The study was done to determine the viablity of providing physical therapy after one year after the accident. The majic time that insurance has demined it does not provide any addional benefits. So I transfered jobs from Denver, CO to Syracuse NY for five months. Worked four days a week and particpated in the study the other three days. During this time also provided transport to another study particpant. We were very fortuante with this study as this was the first time my wife had walked since her injury in 01. Hopefully this study will help change the ways that insurance looks at therapy for people with chronic injuries and conditions.
During the course of the study we incurred significant expenses. From room and board to the cost of living was higher than home.
By 2007/2008 we had exhausted savings accounts with the cost of doctors, meds and the likes. We were at the point of losing our house. Tried numerous times to work it out with the morgage company. Tried for over a year. Finally just gave the house back to the bank.

So my wife an I moved to Pheonix AZ to live with her mother. I had enrolled at Univeral Techincal Institue. Attended shcool full time and worked a full time job, driving across town to the tune of 130 miles a day. I wash lucky to get 4 to 4 and half hours of sleep a night. Did that for 16 months. My wife was the greatest throught the whole time from packing all three of my meals for the next day to letting me sleep for most of the weekend. After graduation, found a job as a diesel tech at Westlie Ford in Minot, ND.

So it was time to move again, that makes six times in less than a decade. Packed up eveything in Pheonix and what we had left in storage in Denver and moved up to Minot.

Best of luck to everyone. And a BIG thanks to 07Forester for giving away his toolboxes.

wow...what an awesome and generous offer. and both extreme green!! oh my...Im drooling over either one... LOL.

this is really hard to try and explain yourself being "deserving" of something when usually people comment on others being deserving, good people, etc.... :) so here goes....

a couple years ago my wife and I bought our first house. we remodeled as we could from inside and then out and of course the garage came last. I had big plans last year to start on the garage again and then we found out we were pregnant! (which was the best thing that has ever happened to me since we had been trying for over a year!) but at 25 weeks my wife went into labor unexpectedly and we had our son 3 months early at 1 pound 10 ounces.they gave us a 30% chance of him living. I had to miss a lot of work over this...about 5 weeks in all unpaid and our life style changed dramaticly. It has been a long year since then and my wife is now home with my son who needs 24 hour care (oxygen...tracheostomy care.... etc.) so we are on one income as well. Its been tough but we have had great support from family etc. and any "extras" have been out of the budget except for a few tools here and there Ive gotten with b-day money....or tool money from selling other tools. And my garage is still unfinished. I did get it sided and I shingled it with leftover shingles I had and built a workbench inside so it would be awesome to have a box inside to help "finish" the inside. My only toolbox is one I share with my dad at his garage.I will post a couple pics of my garage in progress for the garage deserving part of this givaway...and a few pics of my son too for motivation to others who have premature babies that you CAN beat the odds!! :)

The KRL 1022 is pretty much my dream box. I'm not a professional so a double bay roll cab is pretty much the perfect size for me. I just established my first garage so I'll try to take some pictures. I don't own a garage of my own so this year I finally decided to rent one so that I would have a place to work on my stuff out of the weather.

I would certainly love to have something to organize my tools outside of plastic bins and my current project center. In all honesty I wouldn't say that I am any more deserving of anyone's generosity that anyone else. I am grateful that both my wife and I are employed. We just found out that she is going to be taking a pay cut which ***** because it will likely mean another year at our current house and another year of renting my small garage and probably another year before we have children but we're still better off than most. And at the end of the day I get paid to do something rewarding.

I think the most important thing that needs to be said though is how amazingly generous this whole proposition is. 07Forester must have an amazingly huge heart. Congratulations to whomever is the recipient of these generous gifts.

Canada isn't so bad. How close to the US border are you? At your apprenticeship, what kind of tools do you use? how far are you pushing your cart around? Is it a big area?

I'm about an hour and 15 minutes from the border crossing at Niagara Falls, and have family literally 10 minutes across the border there.

As for my apprenticeship, I use primarily precision measuring instruments, but also the usual basic hand tools, screwdrivers, Allen keys, sockets, wrenches, for assembling the moulds that we build, and for general machine maintenance.

We don't have a massive shop, but what makes our shop a little different than most machine shops I've worked in, is that the guys do push their boxes around the shop depending on where they are working. In most machine shops I've been in, each guy tends to have a machine he operates, and just parks his tools there. We were started by an old German mouldmaker, that felt that each tradesman should be responsible for each stage in making a given part, so we move around, to the turning area, the CNC mills, the manual mills, drill presses, surface grinding area, polishing bench, assembly area etc. The other reason we need decent toolboxes, is that the company provides each tradesman with his own 4" thick granite surface plate to mount on his toolbox, so we each have our own portable metrology station.

Most of the guys have 26" wide roller cabs, that are stuffed full, and have stuff laying all over their benches, or they have a second box that they leave in one spot for items they use less often. One guy had a big 50" (give or take) roller cab, that everyone else was very envious of, because he had such a kick *** work surface, as well as tons of storage.

Certainly my garage would never be in the running. You can see my link to the thread about it below. It is a work that will be a long time to completion. And there are far better members who contribute a lot more, even though I try to as best I can whenever construction or design problems are asked about. And my garage thread is a contribution to those, like me, who have difficulties with hoarding. If I did get a chance at one or the other I would donate my HF roller to a deserving institution here in Detroit. You have to pass it on...

Very generous of you, 07Forester!

Hope some very deserving and appreciative people get to give them new homes. As much as I'd like to win, I have 3 boxes now that I'm happy with.

Good luck to those that enter.

I would like to nominate some of our young vets. Does anyone know of a tool nut like us who was disabled in the war on terror? That would be my nomination. They risk their young lives for us.
