You all were right. I should have listened to you. I never should have started with the gateway drug.:pimpflash It all started with just a matco ratchet, then a a snap on extension or two; just a couple tools here and there. I wasn't going to be like "those guys". The other day I got my first Snap-On wrench. Now I'm hooked...on High quality tools!:scared:

I can't stop buying High quality tools damn it. I find myself up late at night posting about tools...I'm up to one new tool a week. This isn't a cheap addiction! Especially when you start seeing Snap-On and Matco tools in your box...It's ruining my relationship with my wife. I'm out of control!! :willy_nil Ok, well maybe she's just a bit irritated with me but still....I CAN'T STOP! Tool rehab? :Help:

It's 6:30am and I have been awake for 2 hours putting my sockets into excel and figuring out which ones I need to hunt down. Is that a problem for any of you?

Didnt think so.

O damn, I busted my ankle and that''s EXACTLY what I'm doing while I can't sleep!!! There's no recovery is there... I'm totally screwed (no pun intended, well, maybe a little :bounce:)

Furthermore...Billymade.... You're right I admit it...Isn't that the first step to recovery? And on an ironic side note my fathers legal name is Billy, thus....Am I Billymade as well?

:lol_hitti:lol: Very true! The darkside is much more powerful!

Think of it as a.... double helix. A downward spiral for your money and an upward spiral in terms of tool quantity and quality.

Isn't money the root of all evil? Sounds like a win-win situation to me. :lol_hitti

LOL I discovered a missing 1/4 in 8mm deep socket and a missing 13/16 spark plug socket, additionally I discovered a missing 17mm ratcheting wrench socket, and the corresponding standard size, and I don't own a single swivel socket, not 1. Nor have I ever had the joy of using one... Damn it, I should have left well enough ALONE!!

Stupid busted ankle and the stupid worthless painkiller... ARGH I should be asleep!!!

And for some reason I now Lust for a Snappy screwdriver...I have never even touched one. :(

Welcome to Addict Land.

I can't do the Snap On thing. It would just kill me financially. You can't even get a good deal on the stuff because there are so many people on the hunt for it. Well, maybe you can get good deals at pawn shops and estate sales, but I don't frequent those.

I am addicted to tools, though, and I'd consider them to be high quality...the old vintage USA brands.

The amount of surfing and thinking I do about tools is pretty impressive.

Hate when that happens! NOT. It's like buying it all over again. :shocking:

I'm addicted for sure. It feels great using them though. Nothing better than fixing something yourself and saying Cha Ching! That saved me $100. I can now use that $100 savings and buy a tool that will further help me save $100.........well maybe not, but it helps to think that way.:bounce:

I have a neighbor who is spending way much more money on mineral rocks than I spend on tools.

IMO, 1) you got to have a hobby, 2) collecting tools is much better than collecting rocks, stamps, etc.

Just wait till you start collecting vintage tools. Heaven forbid there is a list of the tools for your collection or...gasp.... a proper catalogue!

I have 20 tab excel spreadsheet going right now. Not including my modern tools. (It has its own) The WF and PWA lists are going to break me! I'm still looking for the correct Bonney catalogue with the Stream line and Bonaloy wrenches.

No, it never ends..... Thank goodness I have no desire to collect modern shiny tools.

You know you have a problem, when you have your "dress"tools, "everyday" tools, "travel" tools, and "beater" tools. :spit:

I would rather be addicted to tools than drug. I have been collecting alot of high quality tools lately myself (mostly used Snap On). I saw a Snap On 12" adjustable wrench at the swap meet today. The quality feel so good (compare to my 18" Crescent which I paid $15 for it), but didn't want to fork out $35 for it. It feel good after buying these high quality tools.

I've told the kid several times '" If you need to hit it with a hammer, don't use the good stuff".

Im curious to see how you organize this... I have a tab for each socket drive type, and a separate xls for plomb WF stuff (robbed from the plombtool.com table of WF "catalog")

Same here. In more than twenty boxes, divided among three locations, there are the big, best stuff, the basement stuff, the remote location stuff and the travel stuff. When I look at how little it brings when sold, I'd rather keep it and have it at hand wherever I am. Quality used tools are the bargain in today's digital world. We old guys are dying off and estate sales are everywhere and most young guys never pick up a tool and wouldn't know what to do with it if they did. I've been buying used mechanics, machinist and woodworking tools for fifty years and they're a better bargain today than ever.

thnx, jack vines

I'm really trying to not collect vintage tools. I already have to many tools I want. I did score a snapon ferret extension that I figure should probably go to a collector instead of put back into use. I have an old pair of snapon vacuum grip needle nose pliers that I need to take some pictures of. Those were my grandfather's. I really like them because they come to a very sharp point. They are in my box at work and I do use them on a regular basis.
