Is it for measuring thickness? It's tapered and graduated in .005". The clip slides down the shaft.

Looks to me like a flat blade screwdriver with a spring steel clip to hold on to the screw while starting it. Great for spots with very limited access for your fingers. But those have clips on both sides. So the jury is still out on that tool.

Agree with taper gage, just not sure what the clip is for. I assume you’ve measured the taper marks and they match up?

If the user would slide the blade between the two surfaces to be measured, starting with the clip near the far end of the blade, and let the clip bear against one side while doing it, the end of the clip would indicate the width of the slot at the point the blade came in contact with both sides.

The user could then withdraw it and refer to the clip to read the thickness.
