You drive from the U District all the way out to Issaquah at 330pm on a rainy day just to score a free toolbox from Craigslist, to store future tool purchases in ;)

You're looking for a deal on a US made 3/4 drive ratchet and socket set when the cheap hf one taking up an entire drawer for the last year in the toolbox hasn't even been used...

You justify tool purchases by telling yourself you can sell it to make money but you know secretly deep down inside you'll keep it...

Normal people have pictures of their family on their smartphone. Tool junkies have pictures of their tools on their smartphone.

A tool junkie refers to the major equipment pieces in his garage in the same way that normal people refer to their automobiles. Example: A normal person has a 2010 Hyundai Sonata. A tool junkie has a 1938 Cincinnati MH2 milling machine.

Tool junkies often carry intelligent conversations with their tools.

You buy tools so you have them "just in case". So you start out with a Gearwrench or Blue Point tool. Put it in tool box. A few months later it hasn't moved once, but you see a good deal on a Matco one. So, because this is better made, you buy that one too, "just in case."

Or, you have twenty 3/8" ratchets, but not a Facom. So you buy it, use it once, then go back to your F80 every time... But it's good to have "just in case."

Now, I have about 50 screwdrivers in my tool box. Let's say 20 flat, 20 Phillips then some smaller eyeglass repair type things or whatever. Then I have another a locking pry bar box with 5 or so extra long ones, then 3 plastic bins filled with old wood handle, Chinese brands, and older Stanley screwdrivers. Stopped at the pawn shop a few weeks ago and I'm digging through some big boxes of sockets, screwdrivers, etc and it's one of those things everything is $1. So I find a 4" Williams adjustable wrench, then sitting on top of the next box are two black handle snap on screwdrivers. So I wait for the big boss to leave the room and ask the lady, "is everything in this box $1?" Yes sir. I couldn't get the money out fast enough and made sure she never saw those two words on the handles. My guess is someone else found them, asked how much and put them back because the owner probably said $40 or something. That's why they were side by side on top. Plus, they have a glass cabinet for their "good stuff."

Your wife complains that you spend too much of your leisure time in the garage. You tell her: Honey, I understand your feelings. I'll give you a choice on how I spend my time. I can either be in the garage or at the **********. One or the other. I like them both."

Obviously she chooses the garage....you're relieved that she didn't choose strip clubs.

You are constantly working on filling the holes/gaps in your Craftsman, Vlchek, Wright, Plomb, Indestro, Duro, Kobalt, and SK socket and wrench sets! Not to mention the Petersen collection of Vise-grips...and I'm just a DIY guy on the weekends!

You spend an hour carefully going through a box full of rusty junk at a garage sale just to see if there is something that maybe useful. Of course there isn't but if you don't do it it will bother you for the rest of the day.

You know you are a tool junkie when ...

... you pay RETAIL for tools that you will likely NEVER use. (1-1/2", chrome. 6 point, 1/2" drive socket).

I have buddy who has a full 3/4" drive socket set, but he bought it used, at an auction. Even though he has a small farm/ranch, he still is not likely going to ever use it.

Whenever I'm in the tool aisle and see a guy over 80, I just want to ask him what he's in looking for.

That socket is is for hitch balls. I have one in every pickup along with a 24" HF breaker bar. I have only had to use them 3 or 4 times in 10 years but every time it saved my tail.

As far as contributions to this thread. You start projects to have an excuse to purchase new tools.

You buy a new toolbox/cart and tools for the attached garage, because it's easier than walking to the detached or, you know, just moving those commonly used house tools to a smaller tool box you can carry around.

When you tell your wife, go head and buy another pair of shoes because you happen to buy another SO ratchet off ebay.

You are in the third grade and the Teacher makes you watch a "Educational Movie", then she asks everyone one at a time what they learned. When it is your turn you stand up and shout to everyone "did you see the tool belt on the man fixing the old house"; then you know your a tool junkie....:rocker:

LOL!!!!

That one cracked me up real good.

I was talking to a couple of colleagues the other day and they wanted to know why I needed 2 complete tool sets. I explained that my garage was only 10' wide but 70' long and you don't want to have to walk all the way to the back to get a tool when you are working in the front. They still didn't understand it. They're definitely NOT tool aficionados.

1-1/2" socket is used to remove some hot water heating elements. We have very hard water around here, the minerals will build up on the element until it shorts out. One of my buddies is currently borrowing mine. Maybe I need a back up...

Used a 1-1/2 awhile back on the combine. Cant remember what we were working on, maybe when a bearing went out in the feederhouse. Can always use it as a seal or race driver, too.

I'm glad that i'm not the only one that spends time looking for tools, time that could be better spent elsewhere. I guess there are worse hobbies. Now what was I looking for...

You scour farm auctions and pawn shops for tools even though you have full sets in both shops, both your personal and farm truck and in every tractor and combine.

You buy these boxes of pawn shop tools for the 1 item in that box you may need someday(because it was a good deal) but you love the fun of sorting through the box and putting them into your random bins of sockets and pegs for each size of wrench.
