OK Guys,

My wife has already said more than once for me to stay away from this place but I am addicted.

I have followed a few of the toolbox threads and decided I would like to find a couple older ones and have my hand at re-conditioning. Much cooler looking than the newer ones in my opinion.

Anyhow, I just picked the follwoing up from a craigslist ad. I do not have them home yet so can't really give any detail besides pictures. The only thing I know is the guy said he bought them used over 30 years ago.

I gave $75.00 for all 3. Good deal?

Now, where do I start?...lol

I have the lower Craftsman roller cabinet. It and a three drawer top box were my first toolbox, this was in the mid seventies and I clearly remember pating $132 for the two. Stiil have the bottom, I gave the three drawer top to my dad years ago when I replaced it with a 12 drawer top.

That would be cool! Hopefully it has some type of markings and such when I get to looking at it.

Thanks! I was guessing mid-70's just by the looks and the logo on it. Funny thing is he was wanting more than what you paid new for them then...lmao

Is that your wife on your avatar?!?!?

I might listen to her.

Sweet old boxes by the way, its nothing to drop 75 bucks on something you like. How many of us have had $75+ bar tabs.

Got the boxes home today. Snapped a few more pictures.

I am really liking the black box. Not having any luck finding any markings on it besides the paint of course. Anyone have any military background or knowledge? Everything I find about AG-2 is Adjutant General Corps. I would love to learn some history about it.

Noticed that one drawer has a couple small dividers in it and one of them is angle. Leads me to believe it was made for a specific tool and this might be a US Army issue box of some sort?

My first restor project will probably be the small kennedy machinist chest. Small and should be a bit easier to tackle as a first project.

Well, here are few more pics.

and the machinist box. Good condition. Inside of drawers seem like they had felt of some sort?

Couple questions for those of you in the know.

1. Felt or no felt?
2. What would be a good paint to use to try and replicate the original Kennedy hammered grey paint look?

"FOD costs, pick it up" sticker; would indicate to me that it was used in aircraft maintenance of some sort......
"FOD: foreign object damage"

I have found a few designations about AG-2 in searching. One dates 1942-1948 or so for the Timms AG-2 and then also found a ranking of AG-2 in the Airforce.

Driving me insane...lol

The fact that the weight and volume are depicted on the box would indicate to me that it was a box intended to be palletized for deployment, I agree that it's probably an aircraft maintenance toolbox, could be any branch of service, they all have aircraft. Somebody here will probably know.

I'm assuming you're not gonna paint that one.

I have the bottom box and plan to restore it. my dad got it from some old duffer and then gave it to me. It is a great box. I like the slide action almost as much as ball bearings.
