Ok, again with the BAD influence! You people just enjoy making work for the lazy people of this world!
Shiftless, thanks for the hint, to round the corners, now I will have to go out and buy a belt sander. Another new toy, i mean tool!
I've been thinking about stain on the plywood top and bottom. But with all the work that is going to get done on the bench. Won't the (beer) bottle rings show. I guess, who cares, after all it is a work bench!

Did you haul the JD home? Or just enjoy time with family/friend getting it started? I had an old Case, for a while. It was fun to cruse the neighborhood and after a snow, pull the kids on their sleds. Being a city kid, I didn't work it.

No, the 1954 John Deere stayed in the shed. I got great satisfaction hearing the old puf puf sound of a 2 cylinder engine waking up from a 4 year sleep. Charge the 2 six volt batteries under the seat, New points and plugs and it was good to go. Even with stale gas in the tank!

Yes, Shifter, those are feit leds from Costco. Just last night I bought 2 more. With plans on getting 2 more in about a month. I'm hoping that 6 will give enough light for my old eyes. Maybe a trouble light will handy, as my eyes are kind of old.
Maybe tonight, I will get the ambition to get the plywood that I need to Finnish my workbench. Monday and tues I pulled a 31 hr shift at work, and am having trouble coming up with any motivation to do anything.

A couple years ago, the wife (she doesn't like going *******), and I drove Boulder Canyon to Nederland. Then the peak to peak, to Estes Park, for lunch. Thru Loveland back home.
On that trip, I spun a bearing, " just had to" get the motor freshened up a bit. She runs good now! Hehe!

My wife and I are up Boulder Canyon just outside of Nederland. The road from Nederland to Estes is one of our favorites to take on the bike. It won't be too long and the Aspens will be in color.

Sorry to hear about the bearing but glad to hear that you made lemon aid from the the lemons! You guys should make your way up here and escape the heat.

you are right, a day or ten in the hills would be refreshing. These 90 degree days a starting to take their toll.
I keep thinking that they will soon be over and I can start in the garage again, unfortunately I'm not seeing any signs of it ending before winter. Then it will be to cold and ski season will be upon us.
I do have a project or two that I want to get to before winter.

As the garage temp was only 90, I stained and installed the bench top and bottom. Finnished! Not! I haven't even scratched it and modifications are in my head.
The mods will have to wait,it's been pointed out that I need a vice and antique bottle opener before this bench can be considered a workbench.
I've found a vice that has been in my box of stuff for 20 years. It may be good enough. But I'm not sure where I will find a bottle opener that will meet up to the standards previously put forth. I will be looking for an abandoned gas station with hopes of finding a respectable opener to mount to my workbench.

Nice work on the bench O'WC, you know you'll get the GJ vise affliction as soon as you get your old vise mounted up don't you ? If you are strong it may only last a short time - I think I managed to stop after I got 5 vises on evilbay to fix up.

The bottle opener is a good idea, interesting to see what you come up with...

I'm sure your future "tweaking" will result in even more useful features.
I am now in the middle of once again modifying a bench I built 32 years ago.
Here is a picture of my vintage bottle opener, screwed to a leg of my wheel around bench. I don't think you'll have much trouble meeting the standards you are concerned about.
What vise are you planning to bolt to your new bench?
Wilton bullet? Prentiss? Reed? Athol? Parker? ...?

You people are not only a bad influence but you're causing trouble between me and my WIFE! Now I need more than ONE vice! Come on gentlemen, I'm soon to be 65 and wanting to retire. You guys are suggesting a vice that has a NAME! There goes my 401k.
Oh well, she doesn't want me to stay home anyway. Ok, I'm checking craigslist.
That's ok, as I may find a bottle opener there also. I'm going out to the garage to get a beer and open it with my side cutters!

Ok, I know, I haven't installed my vice. But I have been working on some storage space on the bench.
I was able to find some plastic bins at the local tractor supply. And I made a couple drawers/slides that I believe will be a nice addition. Now to get the paint and stain out again.

You plant the seeds, then they grow and grow.
I installed a pair of lights in my work bench area. Loved them. So I got a couple more, because it "needed" more light.
Now, I think another fixture would be good.

I know, I've been negligent on keeping up on my postings. But to paraphrase from someone else's thread. "Sometimes life just gets in the way".
Let me try to get taught up on my doings.

Shiftless, no I haven't found the appropriate bottle opener for my workbench. I'm just looking for that special one. One that comes with an incredible story. Like "I happened upon it at an abandoned gas station or barber shop" then it will lead to a story to share with the grandson or neighbor. (Even if I find one at the flee market) I can make something up.

Grumblebum, I did happen upon a great vice on one of my excursions to the coast. I happened to be at the harbor (freight) and this one was calling my name. And it has a name also. So it must be of quality

I was able to find some cabinets at my favorite shopping mall, Craig's List.
I kept these, and was able to give a couple to my son-in-law.
A win win. I got cabinets and was able to get a brownie point with the SIL.
The cabnets made for a nice spot for some tool storage on pegboard.

Thanks to Santa, I received a bottle opener. Was so excited that I installed it on my workbench the very next morning. Now, Shiftless, is my workbench ready for projects?

You have done well! Grasshopper. Your bench is now ready to hold beer, snacks and the project of choice. Those little plastic bins work great for holding snacks, and they're portable! You could mark them "popcorn", "peanuts", etc. Just don't mark one "salad", folks will think you're crazy!
