Since perusing so many threads here, I've become a vintage tool, box, jack, etc. treasure hunter. And it's all your fault. In the last couple weeks I've bought this stuff...

a couple vintage car jacks and blow torches:

a vintage AJAX car jack (with freebie, gigantic, vintage engine stand):

Now I've started looking through all the old tools I've been given and trying to date them. And I'm on the hunt for a vintage vice and other vintage hand tools, and I'm not completely sure why. I mean, so far they've been cheap, they're well built, and they've got that awesome deco look I love, but shouldn't I be lusting after fancy new SO?

No point really but to say you guys are trouble and apparently I like trouble.

Darkbuddha, they've done it to ME TOO!! :( I used to resist buying those top quality older USA-made tools. But now I've started dragging them out of my old cabinets and closets, and putting them on display. And I'm now buying them nearly every weekend at flea markets, etc. I always liked this stuff, but until I found other folks on GJ who liked them, I figured they had absolutely no intrinsic value, and just took up space in my small shop. But now I look at all these old pieces with envy and desire again. Sigh. And HEY! Looking at your cool old stuff is also dragging me in to this niche of the hobby. Now you're messing with my head also!!!

this is addictive.
and occasionally rewards the effort. As soon as I can get photos, I'll be making a separate post showing how a drawer full of miscellaneous old puller parts gave up just the screw and nut needed to make a NLA Packard tool.

I'm doing it too, I half wonder if the guy that started this forum was a vise seller on ebay, an auctioneer, or a flea market organizer...

Interesting artifacts...
...distinguishing them from "tools" I suppose. I'm sorta okay with that since I just dig 'em for novelty's sake right now. Ultimately, I think I am more of a proper useable tool guy so I'm not sure I'll end up keeping any of it and I can always make my money back in scrap value based on what I paid.:)
