Hey all. I bought my first house in 2014 after graduating college. The goal was to find something with a minimum 2 car garage. After about 6 months of searching I found a beautiful 1930s 4 bedroom with an unfinished 2 car garage.

I grew up busting knuckles in my parents driveway. Turning wrenches when its below freezing on the cold cement ***** and I've wanted a temperature controlled garage ever since. Now for 2 years I did nothing with the garage except throw my toys in there. This past winter I decided to get moving on things (Couldn't keep the bikes in the house forever)..

Now, I had a pretty comprehensive photo journal of the build but due to unfortunate circumstances lost all the photos on my phone. I'll be posting what I was able to recover.

The only pre photo I could find, but essentially completely unfinished interior. There is electrical, but I would be redoing all of it.

Since I would be doing this project over the winter to maintain my sanity while I couldn't ride first thing was to insulate. I had redone a lot of the electrical to suit my needs.

Now the garage did have cable run to it, but it turns out they ran it through the dirt, no conduit. It ended up cut somehow so I had to replace. I decided to run an ethernet line as well the proper way.

Next I got the TV up and connected. I would be running everything through the wall below where I plan to put the work bench to the receivers.

My first time hanging drywall. It was here I found the previous owners build to be not so square. I decided to hang the ceiling first then roll the insulation down afterwards. I also bought a small electric heater to hang in the corner. I was able to keep the garage at about 70F even in the dead of winter.

I also put in a set of pull down stairs for attic access and storage as well as two garage door openers.

I decided to go with R38 for the attic. Installation was pretty easy, and now I would be warm this winter while I finished everything else.

Next step was to hang the walls.

And the absolute worst part of this project...

And for what felt like forever, i spackled and sanded... This being my first time with drywall/spackle I made some rookie mistakes. Worst being not finishing the drywall perfectly. Any misalignments and bumps I left thinking oh I'll just spackle it smooth! This is why the spackle fade is so huge on the walls.

I also decided to go with racedeck flooring instead of trying to clean and epoxy the concrete. I placed my order on black Friday and got a great deal.

I also put a fan in to keep the heat circulated. Makes a huge difference!

Now, probably my favorite part was priming and seeing how well the walls came out!

Now time for color! I was trying to decide if I should carry the blue around or keep it as an accent wall..

And flooring!

Some finishing touches, put in baseboard trim and window/door trim.

How it sits now! This was my first time doing any sort of interior work and I think it came out pretty well. Next step is to build a workbench and get some more shelving and cabinets. Oh, some more bikes as well.

All 3 Italians are **** and the R6 is a great choice as a track day bike. I think my favorite is the Testastretta.

Awesome thread. Looks like a pretty amazing space for a first house.

You certainly have a lot of bikes! Reminds me of my younger bro. I don't ride but he does and has a red 899, and formerly a charcoal 6-speed 128i with sport package that I almost bought off of him a couple years ago. Ended up not because it was older and had a lot of issues, but man I loved that car and the way it drove. So smooth.

Anyways nice work and I will be following along. I like the color scheme, too.

I use this to monitor the temperature and humidity in my garage via my phone. It stores a years worth of data and graphs it nicely. I have a low and high temp and humidity warning programmed into it as well.

I am also looking to build a garage to house my 1 series so seeing yours in there was very helpful! What height are your doors and the ceiling?

Thanks,
Mark

Thanks. The sensor is made by sensorpush. I used miniwax stain and 5 coats of polyurethane. Diluting the poly with mineral spirits helps give it a clear smooth finish.

Great looking home built in the days when style mattered. Nice 135iS too, 6 spd or DCT? Miss my old 748SP used tool around the BeneLux and Nurburgring with it. Photos are gone as this was days of old 1.1 megapixel cameras boy how times change.

I would add a USB style outlet near your work bench since it doesn't look like much hard work is going to be done there. Unless you do the wireless station.
