I call it 'The Mexican,' since it was made there.

16 pounds. Two bucks a pound from Harry Epstein.

It came in handy for taking the sections of floor out when I put in the lift.

Interesting to see some peoples idea of "big" hammer. My "everyday" or general purpose go-to is 64oz.

Nothing special, regular engineers hammer.

Lotta times it doesn't "get the job done" and I resort to various generic sledges up to 16lbs. Sometimes they don't work. Even on wheels and brake drums.

I once used a 75ton tracked vehicle and a piece of oil well pipe to slam/hammer out a stuck winch bushing....still took several blows.

These are my three main "Go to" hammers. The little cross peen is used for 95% of my hammering needs, the short handled single jack for most other heavier needs, and the 2-1/2 Lb smithing hammer on occasion. Mind you I have dozens of other hammers, but these three are the mainstays.

Mine is a 3lb Craftsman drilling hammer. It is the hammer I reach for the most.

I will probably be adding a 4lb Craftsman blacksmith hammer soon though.

I've used this to break a lot of concrete, split firewood and smack corroded rims off of drums. I found that using the pointed end to break concrete is so much faster, it's worth the time with the grinder to put an edge back on it.

I have this guy. 11lber I use if for knocking stuck wheels off cars.

I actualy broke the damn thing once. Handle snapped in half. Granted it had been run over at least a half a dozen times. Good tool...but man does it wear you out! Monster of a coworker once knocked a car off the hoist with this pig. Forunitly no one was hurt and the car wasnt damaged...a miracle!

I have one that i call THOR, It has been in the family for 50 plus years. It was my Dad's hammer a buddy of mine named it THOR when we about 13 years old. Working in the garage when we were kids with my Dad, he would ask for a hammer and my buddy would say do want Thor and the name stuck. I,m 62 years old now and still have the hammer.I broke the handle about 15 years ago and never have fixed it and just sits on self and reminds me of my Father. (I think I will fix it now)

2 of these and nearly a dozen other old large hammers I have gotten at flea markets and yard sales that range from 2lbs up to 10lbs with small handles and 6-16lbs with full legnth handles.

I love getting hammers at garage sales. If it has no handle or a broken off handle 95% of people see it as just a chunk of metal and I usually pick them up for a dollar or less!

I was walking through the neighborhood during 'bulky pickup' week, someone had an old, rusty 12lb sledge head sitting on top of a pile of broken wood. Needless to say, it came home with me. Made in USA, even!

I've got a 42oz stanley compucast dead blow, a 20# old school concrete breaker sledge, and a standard 4lb engineer's hammer.

all see regular use in addition to the standard 16oz & 20 oz framer's hammers

The biggest hammer in the box is a 3 lb sledge. I do have an 8lb sledge that has done a bunch of work splitting wood and working on the house and garage.
