Was at a friends yesterday, picking up shop ideas and we started talking about his integrated vacuum system. Common vac plumbed into a header with 3 outlets, so he can vacuum anywhere in his shop and not have to drag out the shop vac.

So I started thinking, surely others have ideas they came up with that they are very proud of.

Any one wanna share your favorite feature you added to your shop?

Well I wouldn't call it a crowning achievement but it's a neat simple gadget that works.

Just a simple tube, about 6' tall with a little fan in it. It pulls warm air from up near the ceiling down to where it does me some good. I made it from a piece of pvc and a fan I took out of a little tabletop humidifier.

No, it's not for cooling, it's for heating. It doesn't create any heat, it just pulls the warm air down to where it does some good instead of up by the ceiling. According to my infrared gun, when this thing is running the temperature at the bottom increases by about 6 to 8 degrees.

While it's not an idea that outstandingly awesome, I'm happy with my portable welding table. It serves it's purpose, folds up and out of the way.

djjsr - very nice. 6-8 degrees is quite a few! Might have to build in something like that. 6-8 degrees in a 24x24 would be quite a difference.

Nuttsgt - Pics of the welding table?

My shop is full of what I think are good ideas. One that pops into mind is putting good wheels on the second work bench. That way, I can move it around for big and akward projects as well as a back up to the main bench.

Gimme some minutes and I'll think of another...

DJJSR....where did you pic up a fan that size? I like the idea.

That little fan came from a tabletop humidifier. The PVC is 6" diameter and I think I trimmed about 1/16" off the blades to get it to fit. It's very low power and I'd be surprised if it flows 50 cfm but it works and you have to listen closely to hear it running.

I had a friend who lived in an old farm house with a large addition. He worked for Sears for a while. He bought all the tubing, fittings, outlets, and wiring for a whole house vacuum system. But rather than hooking it up to a fancy "whole house vacuum", he hooked it up to a large Sears shop vac in the basement! Worked slicker than heck!

I am sure every member of thiw forum knew what was up in your video after the garage door was 2 feet open.
Still my favorite example of well balanced form and function in a "small" space.

it's a miracle my garage is still standing....

kinda like putting 10lb's of ****, in a 1lb bag

seriously, nothing innovative in my garage, with the exception of everything thats not a tool has been repurposed, nothing in the garage was bought to be specificically used in the garage.
workbench, shelving, lights, cabinets, ect ect.

I have yet to perfect a "crowning achievement" but, when I was prepping the new shop for wall paint and floor coating I carefully took a sawzall to the wall beneath the stairs. Although tapered height from the stairs, its a damn handy storage. My air compressor , welders, and pressure washer live in there now. Framed it all in nicely and even cut down a door to fit. I'm pretty proud of that though others might consider it childs play....
