Your favorite basic portable auto tool kit?

Not a serious kit for changing a head gasket in a parking lot or anything. But let's say you just want some screwdrivers and some basic stuff in case you need to do a quick hack. Like an under 10 min. job like removing something that is preventing you from going home, etc.

I have a couple of the black chrome Husky tool sets behind the seats of my trucks I picked up around Christmas time years ago. The ratchets ****, but the sets are pretty complete in every drive size and they get the job done. No biggie if they get wet, lost or stolen. Perfect for side of the road repairs, trips to junkyard, etc...

besides a roll of duct tape , baling wire, I usually put something together from orphan tools Ive collected, specific to the car/truck make. (extra credit for lug nuts removal) 10,12,14 mm sockets and combination wrenches, a 6-in-1 screw driver, 6-10 in channel locks, etc. consider likely faults and their solution >flats , battery replace, headlamps, belts.

Don't forget electrical stuff> fuses , jumper cables .

One I put together... a handful of screwdrivers, a couple pairs of pliers, a flex head long handle ratchet a rail of shallow and a rail of deep sockets and a set of wrenches... I bought gear wrench stuff for this set because it's affordable and decent quality.

My Metrinch case goes with me everywhere! Best tools ive ever had! Had them for 20 years. They do everything i need them to do. Ive pulled truck engines to simple mower work with them. Nice small portable case. I cant say enough good things about them.

I keep this kit in my truck. this kit and a basic multi bit screwdriver might be more what you are wanting though.

Couple screwdrivers crescent wrench harbor freight metric and standard wrenches and the $5 socket set from harbor freight. American make pliers I paid a buck for and a tire iron

Cell phone to call AAA. I'll work on the car/truck when it is in my garage.

Most of the time I need tools AAA isn't an option in that I'm out in the middle of the boonies and out of cell phone range.
