I have been wearing Thorogoods now for over a year.Up and down,climbing/building scaffolding in a refinery, hard pavement, mud, concrete indoors. It all seems to be quite good and they were comfortable out of the box.

Note the promo code which gets you a nice discount listed on the pages.
The discount is off the suggested retail pricing, not the discounted in BOLD pricing,my only complaint.
I prefer the wedge sole but safety regulations require a boot with a pronounced heel.

I dress them up a couple times a year with bear grease and have no complaints.

Also been wearing alot of merino(sp?) wool socks. They wick moisture away and keep my feet comfortable.Using a heavier sock in the winter months.

I'm a Thorogood guy, also. 3 pair in over ten years and you just get them resoled. I worked in a brewery and the beer would eat up cheap shoes, not the Thorogoods. MADE IN U.S.A.

I wear a pair of Georgia Boots right now. They have gone a little over a year and a half and they are just starting to show wear. I wear steel toe work boots 360+ days a year.

It sure seems my preconceived notion of Thorogood was way off.. I've only been familiar with 1 previously and it was complete garbage but it was a "hiker" style. I'm sure that has something to do with it. I will have to explore a bit more in this area from now on. Appreciate the insight fellas.

I have been wearing Danner boots for over 20 years now. I still have the original pair 2 replacement soles later. All the ones I have are made in Portland Oregon.
My favorite is the mountain light II, I have 5 pairs of them. I wear them every day. They feature a folded tongue and lace to toe design, it now comes in black.

I have had the same pair of Thorogood Boots for 6 years. During those 6 years I have walked thousands of miles in hot, wet, muddy, sandy and swampy terrain and the Thorogoods have held up the best. I bought a pair of Redwings and they lasted a week in the field before the leather stretched out and became misshapen. I use a mixture of mineral oil and beeswax to treat the leather every few months.

Wow....just reread the Danner site. The ones I posted above are imported and now I have found their similar pair that's MADE IN USA, 90 bucks more, and I will buy those.http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000N981NQ/?tag=atomicindus08-20

I had obv. chose the former boots before joining GJ.

I have 3 pairs of Danner rain forest boots. you will love them.

FWIW if a Danner boot lists for under $200 it is most likely imported. to get made in USA it will cost you. the price point for boots is $130, few people want to pay more than $100-130 tops for a boot. that's why you have ****** import boots like rocky and such. if a man is willing to plunk down $200 plus for a boot they are looking for a quality long lasting rebuildable boot with a stich down sole. most of the USA Danners are lace to toe design and you just don't see that in most boots.
They are worth the money.

Being in HVAC, I'm not required to wear steel toes but I choose to. I always rest units on my shoes, so when I go back to pick them up I can slide my hands under them. Also useful for using to kick things really hard! I find I'll kick things like pallets to the back of my truck bed whereas otherwise I'd have to bend down and pick it up. When you can't find a hammer and don't have the balls to kick it with some soft toes :) But Timberland Pro Pit Boss I think is the one. Works great and only took a week and some change to wear in.

I have seen a few "mentions" of what I have tried. Most were too cheap and I haven't returned. I've tried every pair listed here, except for the Thorogoods (Weinbrenners). I have three sets that are still in business, all of them are "White's" out of Spokane.

Another high quality that isn't listed is "Hoffman's" out of Kellogg, ID.

My disposable boots are Tony Lama TLX steel toes. These barely last, 7 months.

I don't do steel toes. Not even when working steel, or moving 900 lb crates. They just don't work for me.

My favorite boots are ordinary Military Surplus boots. My back-ups are Bean Boots (it takes 10yrs to break them in properly).

These all leather babies have survived 15yrs of nearly everyday use. The soles have finally cracked and it's time to retire them. I'm having separation anxiety, it's PITA to break in a new pair.

My favorite boots are the ones I don't need to put on. I don't even were them when running one of the tractors. I hate boots. My feet sweet and I am so warm blooded. I seldom wore boots for construction. I don't like things up around my ankles. I don't even ware long socks. I like short ones or nothing at all. I go bare foot all the time. I even mow the lawn without shoes at times. Boots? what are they. I have not had a pair on in 15 years. LOL

thats weird though cause i don't mind wearing boots at all. i've gone from super uncomfortable boots from when i was in the military (bates soles **** so bad). to really comfortable ones, and you forget they are on after no time at all.

one thing that got me though is when i wore cowboy style so i could walk in deep water without having to switch to rubber boots or overboots, i had to wear almost knee high socks or else the pullups and sides would rub on my legs and give me red rub marks that hurt for days. aside from that, never had a problem.

i honestly don't know why people say steel toe boots are uncomfortable, if you wear a quality boot it feels no different than a regular boot. and the bonus is if you ever have anything real heavy drop right on your foot, it won't hurt nearly as bad or send you to the first aid room for a quick look at how much blood you accumulated in your boots. drop a 100 lb piece of round stock on the floor at your feet because someone else dropped their side of the load, and then tell me that steel toes are still worthless lol:bowdown:

Been wearing a pair of Carhartt steel toe boots for the past year. Got them on special for $40 and have no complaints at all. Pretty comfortable for steel toes and are still going strong after daily use in grease and oil. I've been eyeing a pair of Chippewa loggers for awhile now. Just not quite ready to drop the $200 or so bucks for them. They sure are some **** looking boots though.
