Another local! Hoping neither of our teams get "hammered" today in the first round of the NCAA tourney!

Brian

Well the Beavers mens team did get hammered but the womens team is kicking a$$ so I will take what I can get when it comes to OSU sports.

Independence is a nice little town I used to work for a HVAC shop out of Independence.

Not exactly my favorite, but certainly my most fascinating; to me anyway.
It's an HD Smith Perfect Handle, about 100 years old (give or take 5 years).

Not as east a question as I first thought! My gut said, Snap on Dead Blow ball peen. Then I got to thinking about how much I use on 16oz ball peen, and my brass, nevermind my real little guy! Then I thought.... Nope. When I need to hit something, I reach for this bad boy, pretty much every time.

Mine is no where near as cool as Bears Fan's but it has been with me for a long time. When I was carpenter with "hammer elbow" this thing saved me. You can't imagine the reduction in overuse injury and daily pain going from a 32oz Hart to the 14oz Stiletto. Force = Mass x Acceleration. All you have to do is swing it faster! :D

They were so new when I switched, it still read "PAT PEND".

Apparently there is an auto version and a motorcycle version. I take it yours says motorcycle on the back. Sold price on Ebay from $35 to $125 so don't leave it laying around!.

This is my hammer. There are many like it, but this one is mine.
My hammer is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life.
Without me, my hammer is useless. Without my hammer, I am useless. I must hit my hammer true.

I have 4 hammers I would like to share. I have like most of you a drawer full of different styles and types. The first one is my favorite. It is my Tim Allen (yes that Tim Allen from Home Improvement) hammer. He did a line of tools when the show ended, and I have had it for quite a while now. I only occasionally use it, but the RRR on the head is right up my alley! The next hammer is a body hammer I have had for years. The build quality is excellent and I have used it for more projects than I can count. The small ball peen I just picked up this last weekend at an estate sale. It was so funky I just had to bring it home. Nothing like a hammer with a branch for a handle!

Last but not least is a hammer I found in the middle of the road in a small Kansas town. I turned around , stopped, and picked it up. It is only a piece of pipe with and old shaft welded to it. However if you ever want to smack something really hard, and you don't care about what happens to the hammer then this is the best beast of burden for the job! Actually I think the more abused it becomes the more I get attached to it....

This is my favorite. It's a Vaughan TC432. 2 lb. ball peen.

Over 25 years ago, my '82 Jeep CJ-7 grenaded a front hub and bearing and the bearing race fused itself to the spindle. I was at a buddy's place, over an hour from home and fixed it in an apartment parking lot, in winter of course.

After cutting through the race with a Dremel tool & 300 feet of extension cord, I needed a hammer. So, off I went to Farm & Fleet in DeKalb, IL. Yes, the same DeKalb as the winged ears of corn signs you see roadside. The store is now long gone, moved to the next town over. The new store is a typical huge Farm & Fleet, but the old one was smaller, more quaint, and more emphasis on the "farm" part.

So I'm looking at all the hammers and I find this one. I picked it up and it just felt right. I looked at the handle and it had COMMERCIAL stamped on it, that just seemed more stout than any Craftsman I'd seen. So I bought it and it quickly dispatched the remnants of the bearing race, and has done everything else asked of it perfectly ever since.

It's become my go-to hammer. It's one of a handful of items that has been with me at every address I've ever lived at. And every time I use it, I think of the DeKalb Farm & Fleet, a 20 yr old kid figuring out how to get home, and that stupid ************* CJ-7.

My 3 favorites:

LidsOWQh.jpg

- HF Dead blow

- My grandfather's ball peen hammer

- Estwing Ultra Series

Off the 3 my grandfather's hammer is my usual go to for just about everything unless it's something I need to beat the living day lights out of something, or something the Estwing is a bit more suited for.

This is my go too. Its made by Vaughan and as a Big Rig tech this gets into just about every spot i need a hammer. I have also hit things extremely hard wit this and it barely leaves a mark on the face it is awesome. It takes a little bit to get used to the slightly rounded face but.....

I'm a Beaver too! (M.S. 1989) Although not an Oregonian. Odd thing is I live 3K miles from there and my neighbor around the corner is an OSU Forestry grad. Go figure...

I really like this old "BELL SYSTEM" hammer I found which is the one pictured on top. Short handled and great for tight quarters. From what I gather these were originally used in lineman work.https://scontent-iad3-1.**.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xpt1/v/t34.0-12/12910414_10207632285983292_1831387547_n.jpg?oh=a98bcb317115968414f6d16885632985&oe=56FBE843 My astro ball peen is usually my go to though.

My favorite hammer is this femco copper head, on a snap on handle. I find more uses for this hammer then all my others at home.

When I taught school I usually gave many of my graduates one of these:

19188fe7f29f787c126ae43f5e890cc5_zpsmdzj0co4.jpg

I told them if they didn't loose it they will never have to buy another one.

That is really a handy size.
My favorite Hammer is a 16oz proto antivibe ball pien.
I've used one of those drilling hammers extensively and for me the only thing it spells for me is busted knuckles.

This was my second hammer. The first was a no-name fiberglass-handled 16oz claw that I liked well enough. But one day it was just gone. I bought this 16oz rip and it served in casual use for 20 years. I recently refinished the handle to give it to my son, along with most of my Craftsman hand tools. I think the color came out pretty close to the original.

around 40 years ago, i took to the art of handengraving. couldn't afford the outrageous price of engravers hammers. so-- i made my own. i still use them to this day. they are recycled engine valves.

Estwing 20 OZ rip hammer left behind by a contractor. Called him and he said it wasn't worth his drive or my postage cost to return it, so I kept it. It's identical to the hammer my dad has used on every home project I could remember as a kid (and still uses).

My two favorite hammers, can't make out the name on the ball peen and the soft face is a craftsman.
