Would the M12 Fuel Impact Driver 2553-20 be redundant with 3/8" M12 Fuel Impact Wrench 2554-20 used with 3/8" drive 1/4" magnetic retention bit holder?

You will be much happier with a impact driver for smaller fasteners. Yes the 3/8" with adapter has the capability, but it is still a wrench, not a driver. Wrench's are measure in ft-lbs, and drivers are usually in-lbs. Whole different ballgame

I thought the same thing, and bought the 1/2" to 1/4" hex adapter (as well as 1/2" -> 7/16" hex) for my M18 Mid & High Torque wrenches. It gets you by in a pinch, but not as enjoyable as 1/4" driver. The 7/16" hex adapter has been much better investment. Highly recommend if you use that size bit.

I was about to say not as fun, but a High Torque w/ 1/4" adapter can be fun. Not useful, but fun.

Do you find the 2438 has the power to run 3" Rolocs through rust?

I'm thinking this would be an alternative to an pneumatic die grinder for cleaning hubs and knuckles during break jobs.

Don't really notice much difference in run-time with a 3" flap disc vs a 2"; either one will deplete a smaller (1.6) battery fairly quickly. Haven't tried a 4.0 on it; the balance is so good with a 3" Roloc that I'd rather change a battery when it runs out- I always have a couple ready to go, anyway.

The OP of this thread mentions the adapter he uses with his older 3/8". Not sure if it's the same one you're referring to.

I know you've gotten a couple of recommendations to avoid this setup but in previous threads others have said if they had to choose one tool they'd go with a square drive wrench with adapter over the 1/4" hex drive with adapter.

I have a Makita 1/2" impact (their smallest one) plus a few other hex drivers. I ran some lags with it using a T40 impact socket instead of an adapter + bit and it was fine. Honestly with a T25 socket and the electronic speed control I believe I could build a deck with it.

Might not be the ultimate setup but since T25 and T40 are the most common bits I need to impact it makes sense to just get a couple of torx impact sockets and have one less source of wobble vs running an adapter and a bit.

Note, I have not used a square to hex adapter with this wrench so I have no idea if there would be anymore wobble compared to the torx socket.

My number 1 favourite is 1/4" cordless ratchet.

I've stopped using the impact driver bcuz it's limited by the top end torque.
With the ratchet, you just need a little more leverage, a little more brute strength.

I love my M12 Fuel hammer drill 2504. Light and more compact than the M18 variety. I always grab it for around the house.
