I want to order GEARWRENCH racheting boxes today from www.Tooltopia.com

I'm driving myself nuts as to which style/configuration/variety will be most useful.

I understand many of you have multiple types, multiple brands. I have none and want to buy the most useful, user friendly now.
1) set# 85198 $64.87 XL-Combo (non reverse, appear flat, no offset)

2) set# 85298 $93.09 X Beam Flex (non locking, non reversible, flip over to reverse)

3) set# 85398 $83.59 X Beam Reversible (non flex)

4) set# 85798 $103.54 XL Locking Flex

5) set# 85898 $80.74 XL X Beam (non reverse, flip over to reverse)

6) set# 85998 $98.79 XL Gear Box (LONG with fixed
box one end / rachet box other)

OR the several other style that are Not Extra-Long

What is your most popular go-to racheting box ??

Thanks for your thoughtful reply !

I would like to have all of the sets...

I have the two largest SAE and metric reversible wrench sets. Next I plan to buy the two largest SAE and metric flex head wrenches...

Set 6) would be my choice, so that you can use the standard box to break the fastener loose.

Is it correct that DANAHER owns/mfgs the ARMSTRONG Brand ????

If correct what are structural and cosmetic differences between the (DANAHER)
G.W. GEARBOX racheting box and the ARMSTRONG Racheting Box.

Same 72 tooth rachet "guts" ????

We've have discussed this over and over again.... Just go buy some Gearwrenches!!!

However, Armstrong is part of the Danaher Tool Group. I don't know if the ratcheting box end guts are the same as I have never taken a Gearwrench, Armstrong, or any other brand of ratcheting wrench apart. I do know the each type of my Armstrong's has USA stamped on them for what that's worth. I will tell you that that the Armstrong Reversibles are slightly longer and heavier than the Gearwrench version, the selector switch is shaped differently, the wrench feels differently, and it's marked differently. At this point, you really need to go buy some for yourself and TRY them to see Which model is right for you. The time for talking about ratcheting wrenches has passed, go get some and try them out yourself...:wtf:

I have 6 sets of ratcheting wrenches. They are priceless. I have the Gearwrench flex heads, I have the husky stubby flex heads, I have 3 sets of Craftsman pro full polish non flex head, and t0day I ordered the SK spline gpro xxl double box flex heads. The gearwrench "feels" cheaper, and is. The Husky set feels like ****...but I haven't broken one yet, and they have gotten me out of some stick situations where just nothing else would work. The craftsman pro's are my "GO TO's" ...Probably the best tool I own, and most frequently used. I have one powerbuilt (POS). I also bought, and returned the raised panel cman ratcheting wrenches. They are the biggest piles of horse $h!t I have ever used.

The locking flex head has such a fat head that I never bothered with them. I always like to have an open end on my wrenches as well. I double wrench (for reach) on the Cmans regularly (hence why I bought the XXL SK's). Also, generally I really like the fixed head nothing annoys me more than having to hold the floppy headed ratcheting wrench head on the bolt.

My .02 cents

I have many ratcheting wrenches and those are my favorite. Those came out before the Gearwrench boom. I don't use an open end that much so for me, those work out the best. I do wish someone would make that style set with a flex ratcheting end. Not any longer, that length. Congratulations on your purchase, it's all downhill form here....

Congrats Chuck! Those are great wrenches. I have the Armstrong versions; they are my favorites. I also have a set of the GW metric locking flex heads--another great set. Enjoy.

Other than USA vs Taiwan and price..........what should I consider in ARMSTRONG reversible combo/rachets (open end and rachet box) VERSUS the GearWrench equivalent.

EBAY Etailer has 3/8-3-4" ARMSTONG set for high $60's plus shipping versus EBAY GearWrench set for under $40....

At the end of the day I want the nicer tool without paying HIGH TRUCK prices!!!

Thanks

The Armstrongs are about an inch longer in each size and have the flank/surface drive plus open end. The feel is a little different as well. FedWrench's pictures a few posts up should help highlight the differences for you.

Today I received the below I purchased off EBAY. I wanted these Metric to match my above SAE Pro Swings that I got with Blue Cart "stuff"

I paid too much at $153.00, but i wanted the matching set and figured these didnt turn up all that often on EBAY.

Now I've gone from shopping for GearBoxes to buying these MATCO's

I understand that I'm slow, picky, **** and frugal..............but I finally did BUY SOMETHING....................

I'm still thinking to add reversable racheting combos's............but dont know if I want the CRAFTSMAN, GEARWRENCH, ARMSTRONG or search for more MATCO
