I haven't used heat shrink tubing for a long time, but a current project will require some.
I have a older mini blue flame tool, but I'm thinking about a electric heat gun. My butane type alway's seemed to be empty when needed.

Being just a car and DIY guy, I don't need anything expensive or high teck boyz.

What do you use and why ?
Please include photo's and/or a internet link.

Cheapo no name heat gun
Don't even know where I got it, but any will do the job and I agree with no flame to burn things up.
I've seen wen and wagner guns for around $20

No lighter, been under a dash using a Big, my fingers were more heated than the tubing.

The Wagner looks nice and good priced.

I have a HF heat gun and an old American made Milwaukee heat gun. I use both but am still surprised that the HF $9.99 gun is still going strong. If you seldom use it HF is the way to go.

I use a power probe mini torch. It works good for me. I did recently purchase a corded a Milwaukee heat gun that was on clearance. Heat shrink wasn’t actually the purpose of me buying it. But I thought it could be handy for that too. But the mini torch is a lot quicker to use.

Totally dig mine, been used quite a bit. Replacing corvette headlight lenses, heat shrink tubing, decal removal, etc. Have had it for about 4 yrs works great, adjustable temperature settings. e30d13e3442d1cff2893b7f54dfcb0f5.jpg

I prefer heat guns, but I see butane torches being use on the automotive TV programs.

The Harbor Freight electric heat gun is my main one. Less than $10. I finally killed my first one after dropping it eleventy billion times and bought another.

I also have a compact heat tool very similar to this one:

Using a flame is crazy.

Yeah, I've done it in a pinch, but an electric heat gun gives you so much more control, more even results, no soot, far fewer burned fingers and oh yeah -- you're not gonna explode or accidentally burn up your car or house.

Most of the time I use an electric heat gun. Once in a while if I have the soldering iron hot, I'll just rub the base of the tip along the heatshrink.

Portasol with the heat shrink tip nowadays. I don't ever really use my Master heat gun for heat shrink anymore.

If there's room I like a heat gun with the shrink tube attachment.
