What's your ideal dream garage? Providing that money would be no issue at all.

For me I would have two garages attached to each other. The garage in the front would be 42'w x 60' D x 16' H. That would be to work on cars or farm tractors. Whether restoring, modifying, maintenance, or repairing. I would have a two post lift, heater, ac, and utility sink. Thw two enty doors one to go outside the other to walk into the next garage. The two garage doors are 12' w x 14' tall with windows. The rest of the garage wouldn't have windows.

The attached garage that's behind the main garage is 66'w x 80' deep x 16' H. In there I have a loft. Which is 30' w x 22' D. The garage door would be on the front of the garage to the right side, which would be 18' w by 14' tall with windows. No other windows on that garage. Also an entry door along the right wall. The main floor has a full bathroom, office, and utility room. The upper part of the loft has a full bathroom with a kitchen and living room. Both the living room and kitchen has windows. The office on the main floor has windows. Anyways that garage would be like a showroom for all the toys I would like to have. Also if I wanted to have a truck with a trailer I could load up a car or tractor in the garage. It would be all attached the night before in the garage ready to go the next day.

Yes I would have ac, and heat in the garage. have the walls painted light gray, a red stripping and dark gray. Get neon signs, black lights and epoxy flooring.

Mine would be the size of a small town. I'm pretty sure it would take me awhile to junk it up! Since money is no object I would have a team of pros to go behind me and clean up my messes, finish **** I don't want to fool with, and offer help when I need it. Since again money is no object there would be mutilple lifts, all equipment I could ever dream of, 4 paint booths..... Why 4? Cuz moneys no object dangit!!! Oh and of course it would have an awesome heating/cooling system that I could afford to run for pennies a day. The air compressor would kick on once a year due to the huge storage tanks it would have....... Dang it's nice to dream!

A two story shop in the shape of an old horse barn. The two sides would be full of garage bays full of my dream cars. The center section would have a lift for working on them. The second story would be loaded with woodworking tools. Somewhere there would be a room dedicated to machining and another corner for electronic work.

This place just went up for sale a mile or so away from me.
I just moved in the last year, I hoped it was my last time....

I'd move a mile for this place, but my wife ain't going anywhere. sigh

32x90.
a 32x32 nearby.
Nice 3 car attached garage, on 10 secluded acres.

Oh, the house is set up too.

That outdoor kitchen really appeals to me.

Now that's a nice place. Equates to about £235,000. Sooooooooooooo cheap!

  • Additional 6 ft perimeter around the bays excluding where the doors are.
  • minimum 14 ft ceilings
  • fully insulated with ac/heat
  • polished white porcelain tile, 24"x24" with no grout lines
  • 4 post lift for storage
  • 2 post or full rise scissor lift for work
  • lots of light
  • cnc router/lathe/mill, 3D printer, drill press, bandsaw, etc.
  • large air compressor, blast cabinet, small paint booth
  • decent set of tools (hand tools and power tools)
  • lista cabinets and workstation
  • large air compressor, in a semi-sound proof room, air tools, reels & hoses to reach anywhere in the shop.
  • a shelf of wood and metal supplies that magically refills with whatever I need at the moment so I never have to go pick up "one more piece" or wait on shipping.

Not so important on the size, enough to work on a large RV and a truck at the same time, room for all the tools, and parking for all the family's vehicles inside. More important are the tools that should go in it. Now there's a list. :)

That's a nice place but seems high for the area. I've seen allot of very nice homes sell for half of what they were worth over the past 5 years near my cottage in kalkaska . Most selling for less than the cost of materials and the land alone.

Late to the party, I know, but I'd be happy with Jay Leno's set up. I suppose if I'm being picky, and if I"m not what's the point?-- but I'd try to combine Leno's garages with the aircraft hanger Dirk Pitt lives in (clive Cussler character, sort of James Bond-ish). Vehicles stored at ground level, living space above, all located at the quiet end of a smaller airport. A man can dream, can't he?

I'd probably go with 50-60x125, 5ton bridge crane. Utility 3 phase, full bathroom with mini apartment. Heat pump with backup natural gas. 2x12 framing :D for full insulative effect, why not at ultimate no-cost. At least one 16' high x 10' wide garage door for semi truck access, parking lot to match footprint of building. Is it asking too much to have the first semi truck be a full load of Vidmar cabinets? :bounce:

There is nothing wrong with Leno's stuff and Don Longs either but I don't want it. My ideal hobby kick around maintain shop would be comfy and about half the size of the one I have.

Either a restored vintage barn or a new build with character.....something like this...

Must have 2 levels since I want a hang out space above with smoke room, and automotive themed loft...

This place is even bigger. It is used to work on vehicles and for storage of tools. That makes it a garage right?

I think I'd like a 40x80 bank barn. Very specific style with a walkout at ground level on one side and a walkout at ground level one floor higher on the opposite side. 12' foundation walls on the ground floor, with a lift, this would be the vehicle parking/maintenance area. Second floor would be 10-12' ceilings, heavy timber framing w/ plank floor, for the woodworking shop. Third floor loft would be man-cave with lounge, pool table, TV and bar. If I actually had the room for it, this is what I would have built anyway.

i'm gonna go against the big garage/shop "trend"

no bigger than 40x40, insulated, heated floor, 100a service
single 2 post lift.

loft area in the back 1/2 of the building.

in addition to the equipment/tools i already have, i'd upgrade to a new tube bender, small lathe, small mill, plasma cutter, if there's room, a fab table

i'd upgrade to a 220v mig, and a larger compressor.

i'd have enough room to work on what i wanted to work on, and enough space to keep my trail truck out of the weather, and a space for the wife's DD and my harley.

IMHO
bigger isnt always better, i've got friends with TONS of space in garages & barns, and they are filled with junk....

I work in a 115,000 sq-ft warehouse. Since money is of no issue, I think that would be perfect for me.

Enough room for my junk, a go-cart track, and I would build an awesome living space for myself. I'm not sure what I will do with the other 110,000 sq-ft...but I'll find a use for it! :D

Picture is before we added on (you can see the construction just starting). It's only 75k sq-ft in this pic

I've got an 18x18 "two car" garage. My dream garage would be what 99% of you would be giving up to get one of these train station sized garages!

No budget? Ok I've had this thought of 2 80 and 200 warehouses with a covered area between them. I thought one can be a shop and one storage for all the toys. I work in warehouse with about 30 trucks in it. So figured that would work.
