Just bought my retirement home in Kansas after 30 years in the military and now have my own 850 sqft garage. (Wife has her own garage) The floor 15 year oldsealed concrete. I want a nice looking garage for my daily driver and 67 Chevelle SS and other future project cars. I expect to use jack stands, engine lifts, some painting and general auto disassembly and reassembly.
I've looked at DIY epoxy (u Coat it), Professional epoxy, tile (Race Deck/Moto) floor mats (BLT), have not looked much at other tile options.

So give me your sales pitch with pros and cons on what you would recommend
Thanks
Dale

I looked at all types of flooring and came up with Autodeck from www.instantgaragefloors.com. It is much better that the other floor tiles on the market. Its a really great tile. I got samples from every manufacterer and compared them and Autodeck won hands down. Epoxy takes to long to install and with your old floor, will take $$$ and time to prepare for epoxy. Caompare all the tiles, but Autodeck is really the best.

We are very carful when we make recommendations on the forum to state upfront that we have something to gain as we sell the product. My first suggestion is to go to http://www.jnkproducts.com/free-garage-floor-samples.htm and get a custom sample kit. Request one JNK diamond, one coin and one of each of the mats. It is FREE.

We have a good epoxy (EpoArmor) that is over 20 mils thick with a urethane top coat… BUT there is always something that can go wrong with consumer installed epoxy so I prefer DIY customers to use a modular tile or mat.

Give me some details on how you are using your garage and I can make some detailed suggestions.

Hello Dale, Congrats on the retirement. Being that you've been around the block more than most, I'll save you the sales pitch and just say that you get what you pay for.

When considering modular floor tiles, most are basically the same except that some are made in america and some are made by 5 year old little girls in slave labor camps. Some have unique features such as water tight seal or flex tab expansion joints to help prevent buckling from seasonal expansion and contraction.

When it comes to decorative epoxy coatings.......All I will say about DIY kits is that there is a reason that I send a crew out with 10k-15k worth of prep equipment. The thought of a $2 bottle of muriatic acid and $1 bottle of vinegar being as effective as my prep equipment is ludicrous.

If you decide to go with a pro installer, make sure you get referrences and see some finished work.

Good luck

Where are you at in Kansas? If you're in Wichita, PM me, and you can look at the 5 year old plain homeowner Rustoleum that's been through welding/torching/gas/oil/plasma cutting/jacks/jack stands/cherry pickers, you name it. I'm a fan of it, but if you're around, you can come see for yourself.
