I'm looking for a floor jack, about 2 tons, to raise cars to work on them.

Any recommendations?

What do you think of this Harbor Freight?

https://www.harborfreight.com/3-ton-steel-heavy-duty-floor-jack-with-rapid-pump-64260.html

However, I'm reluctant to buy anything that uses hydraulics, because when I went there a couple months back for something else, an employee was using a hydraulic table cart, like this,

https://www.harborfreight.com/500-lbs-capacity-hydraulic-table-cart-61405.html

to help a customer move it to his car. However, there was a trail of oil beginning behind the cart.

HF jacks have a HUGE following here. If you think youre going to find anything around the same price under a different brand that will be of “superior quality” you probably wont. There’s a reason why snap on sued HF over their Daytona jack they sell for 1/3 - 1/4 of the price. Probably because they are both made by the same factory ;)

Thanks. Are the Pittsburgh brand of floor jacks as good as the Daytona (which cost $40 more), or should I just buy the Daytona?

Don’t sweat the hydraulics.. ask yourself these serious questions. IS IT LOW PROFILE ENOUGH
WILL IT LIFT HIGH ENOUGH.

Those are the considerations with today’s cars. They’re a lot lower than on the past and you don’t wanna be driving on the 2x 6 every time, I know this well! I got the 23 3/4” a few years back having had the shorter style for decades. Big difference that 4” except when things like changing tires ect.
The long low ones I have now have their own issues though. They pull the car much more tothe side when going up. No biggie but if you’re going up both sides it will pull sideways from the other jack or stand . They’re also much more heavy and expensive. No real advice here just personal experience with both types and things to consider.

The last thing I’d worry about is hydraulics , they all work fine. Otherwise it’s the same as with top tier commercial stuff, NEVER EVER NOT HAVE SOME SORT OF BACKUP. I like blocking, wide stuff so it can’t slide off like stands.

There are a couple different Daytona's and I think only the "professional" one is actually "better". The Daytona Pro has a three year warranty, where as all others are 90 days, but maybe they will sell you the extended warranty.

Unless you are getting the Pro I would just get the Pittsburgh, I have seen very little bad about them, and they are like $80 with the coupons.

I bought a HF Jack about 10 years ago, when I bought an Outback with 17 inch wheels my old jacks didnt lift high enough. It still works fine after 10 years of home use.

A few months ago, I purchased the HF Daytona DJ3000 (3 Ton) jack. This is the jack that triggered the Snap-on lawsuit against Harbor Freight. Excellent jack and well reviewed, you can get it for $179 with coupon.

I have the Sna europe Low Profile model rated 1.5 ton and branded by Bahco. It has Quick lift function and lifts about 85cm high. The hydraulics look same as the Pittsburgh and Dayton, which indicates that they come from same chinese factory.

Harbor Freight Low Profile rapid pump 3ton is awesome. Had that and a craftsman one for years but the craftsman started leaking and would slowly lower cars, super dangerous!

My original HF one got stolen but bought a new one to replace it and it’s still rock solid. I think it was under $100, lots of people praise it for the clearance it has and the quality/value.

Are your HF floor jacks Pittsburgh Pro, Daytona, or both?

I just picked up the yellow daytona pro today. The coupon brought it down to $189, and the guy also let me use the 10% off anything so it was like $170.99. I don't think you can go wrong at that price with a three year warranty.

That's an excellent deal--Daytona is one of the brands usually excluded from HF's generic storewide coupons.

As a follow up, I selected the 3 ton HF/Pittsburgh Floor Jack, #64875 (now #64260):

https://www.harborfreight.com/3-ton-steel-heavy-duty-floor-jack-with-rapid-pump-64260.html

because 3 tons is much more than I need now and in the foreseeable future, the price was $80 after 10% off coupon and that I think it's more than half as good as the Daytona brand.

Putting it together wasn't that easy, but greasing and filling it with jack oil were. HF recommended doing both before using it, along with removing air, things I have never done. It goes up smoothly, but hesitates at one point going down.

Anyone have a favorite jack oil, or is jack oil jack oil?

I know most everyone here loves the HF jacks, but in 20 yrs with light home use I,'ve scrapped two HF floor jacks, they leaked down; and at least two bottle jacks in my 12T press - they just leaked fluid. I gave up on HF for hydraulics - they still use o-rings on the main ram which is planned obsolescence. Yes, I know, just buy a new jack every 10 yrs, it's still cheaper than buying quality

$80 is about as cheap as I've seen those go, so you got a good deal on it. I've used that same one for about 4 years now and it's worked flawlessly. Considering it comes from Harbor Freight, though, I always make to double check the jack stands before crawling under there :). The only real advantage I see to the Daytonas is, I believe, that their warranties are longer. But, of course, you pay for that. Do yourself a favor and keep your new jack as dry as you can as they tend to rust up in places pretty quick.

Good luck with it.

Thanks. What do you mean by "dry?" I don't use it around fluids or in the rain.

Buy a old Blackhawk jack, parts are available and China can survive without your support

I have always found those older jacks to generally be very large vs the lift height they provide.

For me the are both built too large to slip under my car and have too small of a lift height to work on my Jeep.

While I generally not a fan of most Harbor Freight products, I have to admit I am very pleased with the quality and features of my Daytona low profile long reach floor jack.

I just meant out of the rain or even excessive humidity. If it does get wet, make sure to blow it off before taking it in.

"Old" is a relative term, I guess, but most jacks I would consider that don't have a low-profile design. Most older cars were pretty high off the ground compared to today thus jacks really didn't need to be that low.

Alternatively, if you don't want to support the Chinese poaching and murdering machine, especially in the precise situation where they stole someone else's IP, you can pay more for an AC Hydraulic. There are some Spanish made jacks out there if you don't need the extreme long reach, but I forget the name.
