Your Single Most Expensive Socket

I'll start by saying that I'm just a DIYer. I'm serious about it, but I don't make a living turning wrenches. I have my share of sockets and can handle just about any job that requires a 1" socket or smaller. I have a few sockets that are larger than an inch, but I don't use them too often. I recently encountered a project that requires a 1 1/4", 6 point, deep well socket. Most of my sockets are Craftsman branded, so I figured, I'd just stick with what works. Well, Craftsman doesn't make a deep well socket that big. I ended up at a local tool store hoping to find something made in the USA. I looked at the SK stuff, and they had almost exactly what I was looking for but with a 12 point opening instead of a 6 point opening. The sales associate suggested that I check out the impact sockets because they were 6 point. I found what I was looking for: An SK 1 1/4", 6 point, deep well, impact socket. Final cost after taxes.....$28.13. So to date, that's my most expensive socket. I'm sure that's nothing compared to what others have in their boxes. So, what's your single most expensive socket?

Here come the posts about the 7 inch stanp on socket someone has that cost $6000.

I think my most expensive sockets to date are just my cman usa torx set at $98 about 6 years ago. I think I've managed to buy everything else used.

Well I was really just asking about the ONE single socket that you own/bought/found/were given/etc. But you're right, the pictures of the big monster sockets are going to show up. I'm not asking about the most expensive socket on the planet, just the ONE single socket that YOU have in your box.

2-5/8" 6 point 3/4" drive impact socket from Snap On to take off big rig yokes cost me about $220.00. It's a special thin wall design so it fits down into the deeper yokes. They had that size at Northern Tool but it's a little too thick and one inch drive so I sprung for the Snap On.

my most expensive socket is the 1 and 5/16 inch snap on crowsfoot that cost me 12 pounds in 1981. I only earned 35 pounds per week before taxes. I have used it twice since then. When I think I paid a third of my gross weekly earnings for one socket I break out in a cold sweat. I would definitely not do that today

I just bought a 36mm open end torque wrench insert for 50 bucks... I guess that qualifies as a socket. Still not here yet... So I don't own it yet. :)

I have a couple impact sockets that list out over 1500.00 each. I also have a new impact universal joint that lists out for around $300-400.

Biggest ones I have bought are 2" and 46MM -- each in the $50 to $60 range. I have ordered bigger for the shop, but I saw no need to buy 4" or so for myself (yet - maybe some day).

I have a 1-1/8 Grey Pneumatic 3/4" deep impact that I bought for adjusting my weight distribution hitch. I think it was about $23-24 at the local tool dealer.

Try a part store next time $10 range and they usually have GW, odds are its a 1-2x use socket anyway.

Most of my huge chrome sockets were actually pretty cheap (don't think I ever paid more than 50 for any of my 3/4" or 1" drive sockets). I have some pretty big crowsfeet that probably take the cake. Those are steep!

Probably 2" shallow 3/4 drive impact snapon. Think it was around $80 when i got it. 3/4 swivel joint was pricy but not really constituted as a "socket".

It would have to be my hazet 880 universal e Torx extension socket cost me 110 from the Mercedes dealer but I needed it to finish job and tool trucks was unavailable at the time. Seems like a lot of hazet distribution has left the US except some thru ast

I bought an OTC 3/4 drive 2-9/16" socket for doing wheel bearings on my Dana 60 front axle, it was $28 and some change with my employee discount from when I used to work at Carquest.

3/4"drive snap on Allen head 3/4" impact socket. Think it was in the $90 range with tax. Only used it twice, both times on a 18:1 torque multiplier.

The most expensive socket in the shop at work would have to be the 4", 1-1/2" drive Proto. I don't even want to think about what that sucker would cost.

Heck, Try a PAWN SHOP and go with used.

It's going to be used after you use it anyway.

A good used 1-1/4" socket should only cost a few bucks at most unless its a truck brand.

I'm sure there were probably cheaper options from asia, but like I said earlier, I was looking for something made in the USA.

Most I ever PAID for a socket was a 2" 3/4 drive craftsman and the 3/4 to 1/2 adapter (Needed so it could be used in the trail... no i was NOT going to put the 3/4 ratchet into the road box...) for the front axle nut son my samurai's. Right around $30 IIR.

The most expensive socket I own to replace would probably be one of the 3/4" or 1" drive Protos around 2 to 2-1/4" (Bought years after I got the new Craftsman...)

Semi deep 12 point 10mm universal Snap-on. I would gladly buy another, wish they would make a set of these but the last time I asked( 2 years ago) they only offered it in 10mm.

Axle nut sockets can get pretty pricey because of the larger diameter. So my priciest socket would be that (around 10-15 bucks) for home. I believe it's kd. I usually buy one offs or specialty tools on closeout from ebay; can't do it much if any cheaper at retail.

(1/2" drive, impact grade)

I had a project at work and needed a couple 3/4" drive impact allens 22mm range (can't remember exact sizes at the moment). Ended up buying some Armstrong...........and they were all in the $50.00 to $75.00 range. I think I bought 6 in various sizes......spent well over $200.....and they only got used once. Collecting dust in my 3/4" drive drawer. But, hey, they are ready to go if I ever need them again.........when hell freezes over.

I paid $50 for an Armstrong 2 1/2 inch drive 5 3/8 socket. Weighs 52 lbs. It was never used and listed for about $2000 on a price sheet I saw. Obviously no one would pay list price for it but I would guess it would be about $1200,,,,,if you needed one. I bought if for a conversation piece for my store and get lots of comments on it.

I've seen pictures of a huge socket at Epstien's that dwarf mine, but don't know the size.
