It's a neat little unit. like how it separates, but its still small. Not going to run a sprayer or an impact very well. How did the 1st one fail?

phansen, The first one leaks air, paint faded real bad on it and the rubber grip disinegrated like it were 81 years old. I kept it inside too. The hose I bought to go with it did the samething so I took it back for credit, my Snappy hose see's the sunlight everyday and it's ok. I run 1 tool at a time with it.

Not going to run a sprayer or an impact very well.

Specifications
Air Delivery: 4.9 SCFM @ 90 PSI
Max PSI: 150 PSI
Tank Capacity: 5 Gallons

Granted, I only have a small shop, but runs my stuff fine. About as large a compressor that can run on a 15A circuit.

Good product! Nice that I can take just the air tank to charge up tires, or take just the compressor (with 1 gallon tank) for small jobs that don't need the storage tanks. When it's stacked together, it's very heavy. I keep mine on a cart.

dirtydog, not sure, just lost it's air the next day. When running it gets too hot, maybe loading up.

2manytoyz, I think the 4.9 will work good for my ratchets, charging tires, blowing dirt off and my NitroKitty for lugs, suspension ect. My big one is in my avatar, need to redo the shop and move it in another bay. I also have a DeWalt verticle on wheels for whatevers, lol.

2many, so far you like it then eh? I will look to see what my old compressor puts out today, that will give me a ruff idea on it's ability. Hmm, I could hook up my refill tank to give it more volume. Also, when is the lube changed?

How loud do those things get?
I had a small husky horizontal, oil-lubed direct drive that was registering 103 dB! I returned it the next day. Didn't really feel like having to put on hearing protection just to blow out a 2 stroke carb inside the shed.

Gary S, I have a new main, 3 sub panels, Cap on the pole and 90% new wire so far. This is just a little handy one the goes on the road and plugs into my onboard welder :)

Had mine a couple of years now. No complaints. It's an oil-less pump, so no maintenance: "Best-In-Class Oil Free Pump – maintenance free and delivers reliable performance. "

My buddy uses a couple of the portable 5 gallon tanks with his home air compressor setup. When they are connected, it increases the overall volume of air. They can be quickly disconnected and used as a portable air supply.

Almost all oil-less compressors are loud, but some are a lot louder than others. The Craftsman compressor I had years ago was far louder than this one.

This one is only slightly louder than the Dewalt Emglo D55155 (oil-lubricated pump) that I had previously. I traded it to a friend. It wasn't portable (no wheels), and weighed too much to use in the field (60 lbs).

ts1699.jpg

If I had a production shop, I'd have a bigger compressor, and put it in a separate room. But I only use it for filling tires, operating nail guns, a sander, drill, impact wrench, small sandblaster, or a small spray gun. None of these tasks operate it more than an hour, often only a matter of minutes.

When I need portable air, takes only a few seconds to pull the lower tanks off the air compressor. Unplug an airline, twist the lock, pull 'em apart. Easy.

So what was better the dewalt or ridgid 2many? Both look like nice ones I looked at the dewalt before. Either would out perform my porter cable pancake.(it's been a great one)

I liked the performance of the Dewalt, but I often needed to haul an air compressor to a storage facility where I kept our camper. Power was available, so I'd throw the Dewalt compressor into my SUV, and take it there. Eventually, that got old. My back ain't what it used to be.

The new compressor is a bit heavier, but splits apart in two pieces. It's easier to carry this way. One piece can be loaded into the truck at a time also.

dscn6332.jpg

I ended up discovering I didn't need to take the compressor most times. The portable tank usually did the trick.

dscn6328.jpg

So my buddy Dennis had a pancake compressor for his shop, but he was making cool R/C airboats. I gave him my air compressor in trade for some work and parts for my own airboat.

Uses a 27cc weedeater motor! More toys, hence the handle...

The Emglo was good (that model now discontinued), but I like the tri-stack better since it's more versatile.

2many, Have you tried an 1/2" impact with it by chance? I would like to see if it will let my kitty chew the lug nuts off. I have a air/water remover filter that I installed fittings on I use on my Rigid now. Even the portable has clean air for tools and tires.

I use a 1/2" impact wrench frequently with this compressor. Works great.

Most recent task, replacing the stock bumper on the Jeep with a Smittybilt bumper & winch.

First two pics have the impact wrench.

2many, Thanks. I will take my Rigid into HD repair and complain like a women to replace it as I need it and they don't carry mine anymore so will take the new split I hope. I took my Rigid 3x21 belt sander in today cause it stopped working before I could wear out a belt, they said about a week so we'll see.

For your uses it will be perfect, but the last time I tried an impact with it it left me wanting a larger tank to run for more than one nut without a short break (10 seconds or so) for it to recharge.

ecidius, You can't take off more then 1 lug nut w/o the Rigid charging again?

2many, Nice Jeep, I like my toys too, 73' CJ5 needs engine so I might build a 258cu.in. for torque with TBI or I'm leaning towards a little diesel. I also have a 73' & 76' Scout II, the 73' I already built a 350 bored w/TH400 and the ****** was blown once. I want to install 4bt in both of them. "Sorry peeps, I went off subject"

Thanks, JASTECH

A 1/2" gun might be a little better at it, but it would start running at the end of a lug nut with my MG325. I sold the impact and just use a breaker bar now.

Well awhile back when I bought my Rigid air compressor I was told "Sense it's Rigid, if it breaks down just bring it back to HD and we'll just grab another one, no worries". I did buy the extended warranty for it too. Today my Dad and I drove to the next city to HD with said compressor. They stated there never was such a warranty, my unit will be shipped out and it may take a month! So I was very upset to say the least and my breathing was not good, so I said "you gaurantee it will be back in a month?"....He said...No! I left HD fit to be tied, luckily my medication was working!

Do you guys know this is there policy? I told them it use to be HD would grab a Rigid tool off the shelf and swap the customer sense they were Lifetime Warranty. The Mgr. told me it has never been that way with Rigid tools. You guys know any different? Please post if you do and explain your experiance.

Thanks, JASTECH & Son

Oh, when the Rigid air compressor does come back I will sell it, then take my business else where. Just typing this for you guys to read has started me shaking and upset. I only paid $279.00 for the unit but expected better quality and service. I may copy and paste all this on the HD website and every place that it will help others.

Really?

My Ridgid compressor has a 5 gallon tank and has no issues running the impact wrench.

Furthermore, I have a DC compressor in the back of my truck with a 1 gallon tank. It does run out of breath after a few lugnuts, but does fine with the first few (jump to minute 2:28):

JASTECH, I would have gone to the original store and had a talk with the manager to see if they'd be willing to work out a deal so you don't have to wait for the new one to arrive.

$279? Only $100 more than I paid for my Craftsman 33 vert (which came with a cheap impact and air ratchet). Premium price ought to give years of troublefree service.

A little Google and contractors seem to like the Makita 5200 and for smaller and quieter Rolair.

Oil lubed twin tank Hitachi has a pretty satisfied following of constructors and other here in the Houston area. (re: Lowes)

As long as you didn't try for production speeds,
my old style oil-free twin tank (5gal) Ridgid would run an impact or framer all day long.... and frequently did!

2many, It was the store I bought it at and my Dad bought a similar Rigid, so he is upset over the HD service/warranty for his and table saw.

Dangle, lol bro, I posted new thread this morning asking about the Rolair which is same as Makita, yes the 5200 has excellent ratings via Woodshop and others.

I really wanted the Ridgid Tri-Stack ... until I found out from a tech guy at Ridgid that it's rated @ 102.5 decibels. I've noticed (based on alot of reading) that most Ridgid oil-less units are a bit on the loud side.

I keep waiting for someone to buy a California Air Tools Compressor. Very impressive specs. They are oil-free, but based on their video they are quiet.

They even have a 2 HP rated portable twin stack with aluminum tanks. 120 psi max, 5.3 CFM @ 90 psi, 14 Amp draw.

I bought the same tri-stack compressor three months ago. So far it is a great unit, my only complaint is the noise. It's by far the most noisy piece of equipment I have. I like how the unit separates into two pieces, I used the compressor only while doing some interior trim work recently. I took the tanks by themselves into the house to clean the fridge coils the other day where the vacuum was lacking. One of the cool features of the tri-stack is being able to separate the two pieces, leaving the motor nearest to the outlet and/or away from noise sensitive areas and having the tank near the work connected by a hose. The short hose to the tool does not affect the tool pressure as would having a long hose to a distant compressor. You can also have two different pressure settings in use at the same time, 90psi for a tool, 30psi for a blow gun, etc.

The majority of the noise, as it is with all these direct drive oilless pumps is the air intake. I am searching for something to re-fit to the pump to make an intake muffler, the OEM air filter simply screws into the head assembly. Other than the racket, I found the thing to be rather well made overall.
