Whats up everyone? Im Jeryd, and here is my little(lol, yea right) back story leading to the build of my new house/garage...

The story starts out in Rancho Cucamonga, Ca, 2010. My first home purchase, my first garage to myself, total paradise! A small, but somewhat functional detached 2-car, built in the mid 60's. Never been touched, or used for anything other than a car storage device.

It had some issues like a really bad crack/uneven floor, so floor coating or tiles was definitely out of the question. So i decided to add a couple outlets and just drywall the thing. Added some nice built in shelving and called it a day! It worked great, up until I got married and we decided to sell the house and move... This was it mid construction, I cant seem to locate a post paint job picture to share, so this will have to do!

The next house, had a very similar sized 2-car, nothing real special, and honestly, we only lived here for a year... It was barely enough time to get in, get situated, and pack. I never really got anything done here..

This time the move was because I took a job in Utah, as it was a non-travelling job, cost of living was cheaper, and the wife and I wanted a change... We bought a home that was advertised as a 2-car, but little did I know it had a little more in store! It was actually a 3-car tandem. I was stoked to finally have a 3-car, not to mention the 13' ceilings!

Some other things around took priority to get done around the house, plus the pay cut that I took with the new job took some adjusting to, but I got by. I finally had a place I could park both cars(sold my project 71 Chevy-seen in previous pics) and still have space to store my other junk and have workspace.
utah%20garage%202_zpsgwrxflfk.jpg
[\URL]

I then transformed the tandem space into a "Dip Shop". Being in Utah meant I didnt have to follow Ca's ridiculous rules and I could get my Plasti-Dip by the gallon and play. I started a small weekend business dipping cars for some side money. It worked great, but it was short lived...

About a year into Utah, the wife and I agreed that we were both pretty homesick, and the lack of family and friends being around was taking its toll. At that point we decided it was best for me to get my old job back and move back to ol' CA. So we packed up and headed back, but this time we had to rent for a little while, as I was headed back out on the road almost immediately after getting back to my old job.

We started the house hunt regardless! After months of seeing nothing we liked, raising our price amount and finding anything and everything that just needed renovations we decided to go new build... This gave us the flexibility to have a house done just how we want, right off the bat! We found the perfect one after a few weeks of searching. Finally a long term solution that we both love... No more moving! The only price to pay was in the garage dept. Its your typical SoCal 2-car(hence the title) and I definitely dont have the space to build as we are in essentially a detached town home tract. This does come with its benefits though! I dont have any improvements to do right off the bat, and I dont have to maintain a yard! This means more garage time(thats when Im home that is!) so I plan on making this space as awesome as some small garage builds I see on here!

I will be tracking the build of the house here, as we are right in the middle of the build and the finish date is in Nov '16.

Enjoy!

Have any more pictures of your dip work? Until the TDI scandal hit I was considering dipping my car just as something fun to do with it. Now that I'm selling it back I won't be doing it but maybe on the next car.

For sure! I really enjoyed doing it, sure was alot of fun. The reactions were the best part! I loved turning over the key to the owners.

This is the day we discovered these homes, fell in love, picked our lot, and put the deposit down. This tract was already planned out, so we had 4 of the model we want to pick from for the Nov closure date we were shooting for. 2 had bigger backyards and a "view", but were $10,000 more. We decided to go with the smaller yard and save the money for upgrades! So, here is what we agreed to put our name down on... A lonely open spot of dirt, but with some trenches dug and rebar in for the slab

Slab is poured, footers drilled and in, ready for first floor framing.

Im standing in the back yard, almost up against the back wall. Like I said, its a small yard, but it works for what we want.

A little shot of the houses that are just being finished on our road

First floor is framed.
This is viewing the front door to the right and the garage on the left. Its a reverse of the rendering in the original post

Straight into the garage. Decent sized driveway id say!

Standing in the dining room, looking into the kitchen(to the right) and living room(to the left) and the little pony wall is for the island

Standing in the dining room, looking out the opening where the rear slider will be into the back yard

The joists for the second floor are installed, house is starting to take a little more shape.

Kitchen/Living room

In kitchen, looking into the mudroom that leads to the garage. Open space on the right and powder room on the left

Looking down on the living room from the first flight of stairs

Second floor view... The houses across the street are the aforementioned ones with the view, Well, Id say ours has the same view, just from the front of the house!

Second floor is now framed! The second floor has 3 nice sized bedrooms, 2 full baths, a loft, and laundry room. All 3 rooms have walk in closets. Nothing changed with the first floor, so only the second is being shown

The view of the loft standing in the hallway. Master bedroom is just past the loft

The opposite of where the last was taken, looking down the hall to the 2 guest rooms/bathroom

Looking into master bedroom from loft

I have to say I am truly amazed at what this crew of guys has done in the last month... A couple of days more than a month ago, i was looking at a flat dirt lot and now im looking at a completely framed house. Yea, sure, its only a few days of work to get that far but they have also thrown up 15 other houses in that time as well. Our phase consists of 16 houses and they are all at or past this stage. I have to give them mad props!
So, this date didnt have much photographical progress as the others, mainly because its just trusses, but here is what I have!

Upstairs loft area

Here is the laundry room. They have it planned out for two standard machines to be side by side, but we have some different plans. We have front loaders, and they are stackable... So we are going to take advantage of that, and use the space where one machine goes and use the other space for a counter top area.

Here is the smallest of the rooms. This will be our office. We arent planning on kids, so the other room will be a guest bed.

We also had our design appointment where we spent all our money and now we are broke :lol_hitti
The entire first floor is going to be the 12x24" tile shown here. Its a "linen" look and texture. Pretty neat stuff! On top of the tile is a cabinet sample, counter sample(white marble), and the paint sample of what will be throughout the house(minus trim, doors and ceilings)

This is showing the marble subway tile backsplash that will also be in the kitchen

The second floor will be all carpet(of which I failed to picture) aside from the bathrooms and laundry, which will be this marble look tile

And then I got to go pick our slabs for the kitchen! :willy_nil

Thanks bud! It is extremely exciting seeing everything you wanted in one shot come together.

The house is in Yucaipa. We were hoping to be in the Redlands/Highland area as that is where the wife grew up, and I really love the area, and this was only 10 minutes from that.

I swear if I ever had to pick out an entire house of new finishes with my wife I'd fn just swallow a bullet. Glad you're excited about it. Lol

Ya that's a nice area. I live just on the other side of the canyon from ya. I've always liked that area but have been very happy here in the hills of riverside.

Yea, I will say that it was a very long 3.5 hr appointment, which I guess explains why they normally split it up into 5 different sessions, but with deploying in July, we both wanted me to be there for the big decisions so we only did 2 sessions. The first one I did myself, but that was electrical and doors. I went nutty on electrical upgrades, since SoCal houses dont come with jack :monkey_po standard.
I thoroughly enjoy home improvement and design(I always wanted to be an architect, just never had the book smarts/patience for the schooling) so that helps a ton with the motivation to want to do it. I am very lucky to also have found a woman that has very similar taste in design as I do. She is more of the visionary in the relationship, I have to see pictures of things together, otherwise I start to question my choices. LOL

I have spent alot of time down your way when i first moved to CA. Had a few buddies that lived in Riverside, that we put together fairly large VW shows(Im quite a VW/Porsche enthusiast) at the VW dealership there off Adams.

Its our 3 year anniversary, and also the pre-electrician walk through! All the plumbing, fire suppression, and HVAC is complete! The next day the electrician comes in and wires the place. I literally took a picture of every square inch of the house for reference for us, just in case we need to go in for any reason... Here are a few that I took of the garage!(FINALLY!)

Down in the corner is my in-garage hose bib! Thought it was a cool feature that they are adding

Well, the house is starting to look alot more like a house instead of a pile of sticks. The backing paper is up on the outside for stucco, along with the insulation on the exterior walls.

Which is the day Im scheduled to return from my current deployment. Time to jump into move mode:eyecrazy::eyecrazy::eyecrazy:

Small, slow update. The garage is still looking roughly the same, but the house is starting to look a little more like it should. We have color and a roof!

Now, lets talk about the future! Id like some fellow garage design inputs on this...

As I believe Ive stated before, Ive kind of grown up a Porsche fanatic, just never had the money to own my own. My grandparents have had theirs over the years. Even though I dont own one (YET!), do you think it would be weird to have a Porsche themed garage? The two cars that will be in it for now are a Mercedes SUV and a Chevy Volt(until next year, should be replaced with a VW or Audi)

Here is what I have in my mind...
All white walls and ceiling, with the Martini Racing stripe running about half way up the wall horizontally all the way around. Like this

Now, with that said, Im moving on to floors. This is where Im kind of torn...
Ive definitely decided on floor tiles instead of epoxy or stain due to the durability nightmares I've seen on here, cost, and the fact that I can take this with me or change it as I feel necessary!
Ive looked into RaceDeck and SwissTrax. I love both a ton. The RaceDeck for the price and the reputation. The SwissTrax for the color selection, quality, and the fact that they are made 50 mins from my place.

I have two designs, 1 from each company that I love. Here they are
RaceDeck
12x12" FreeFlow tiles

SwissTrax
16x16" RibTrax tiles

I designed the SwissTrax. My wife, the RaceDeck. I love them both, mine because it has the colors of the stripe on the wall and I love hers because of the very neutral, simple colors. With hers I could always paint the walls differently and it would most likely go with it. And it matches our cars currently.

What do you guys think? Which do you think would be the best choice? Or do you have an alternative that you would suggest?

Thank you for the input

The biggest thing is that they are detached. It doesnt bother me too much!
I will say the way they build these things is impressive. Lightyears better than my first one(built in '64):lol_hitti

You want Porsche then do Porsche. I'm sure there is one out there with your name on it.

You have used the term "deployment" several times. Are you military? Thinking maybe an ART?

Oh there is one, I just have have to hunt it down! I was just wondering if it would be weird in the meantime.

I am not military, but I am a contractor working on military toys:thumbup:

Looks like its going to be a great place. I love the Martini design - it would be a hard decision between Martini and Gulf. I second the thought that an off-center stripe might be pretty cool.

I like the idea of old Porsche themes/liveries without plastering the Porsche name and logo on the walls

what you have in mind for your Porsche purchase?

Really digging the Martini stripes. Love that look.

Ive always loved the way the colors flow together... Thanks man!

I wonder what a martini stripe on the side would look like instead of right down the middle.

ohhhh man... How could I not think of that?!?! I fired up Numbers(Apple's version of Excel) to give it a look, here is what I worked out. Turns out using that program works pretty well!
I cant decide which primary color i like most...
Black(not a traditional Martini base)

Dark Grey(also not a traditional base)

Silver

Or White

Thank you! I cant wait until we are in it... its driving me crazy!
My first love for the vintage liveries started with GULF(Plus it helps being a Broncos fan).... I thought about doing it originally, but I thought those two bright, vibrant colors would be a bit much, but now that I think about it more, I could use them in a little less offensive manner. What do you guys think about these I made up??? Im seriously considering it!:eyecrazy:

Yea, I think that makes the fact that I dont have one, but going with this theme work...

As far as my first Porsche, thats a really good question... HAHA Im always looking for anything. If I went with something modern/watercooled, Id like to have a Cayman(GT4 if I could afford it). If I went aircooled, id like a 993 C4S or Turbo.

Either one of those is a ways out from acquiring, as my wife and I's goal is to get this house payed off in the next 5-6 years.

There is a very special Porsche that has been in my family since before I was born, it was the one that I grew up around. A '64 356C. My grandfather recently passed and my grandmother is never getting rid of it, and I dont blame her. Its a very meaningful part of their lives, and its the only one of many vehicles my grandfather had that she is keeping. What happens to it after that, Im going to do everything in my power to keep it in the family...

Nice designs. I like that the stripes are to the right. It plays better with eye. Hopefully, your Grandmother works an arrangement with you.

Well, it feels as if its been forever since I posted! Almost 5 months to be exact... But Im back!

Since our last talk, we've moved in, gotten rid of A TON OF ****, pretty much all but sat still...

The move in went well, as we stacked the garage with all the boxed items and went through them 1 by 1 and got rid of most of it all... That took the majority of my time home between trips.
I was privileged enough to get a new car for my birthday as well! Its a 2016 VW CC R-Line. It was too good of a deal to pass on as the lease on my Volt was coming up, and '16 model closeout was in effect. She sure is purdy

Once I got back to work, I eventually was able to get A car parked in the garage! Not much of a feat, but I sure was excited!

Built some "I" beam ceiling storage systems. The containers were bought at Lowe's, and the lip sits in the groove of the beam.

Now that they are up, Im not 100% pleased with the final product... I plan on modifying these, but for the time, they get the job done!

I also repurposed an IKEA shelf that ended up missing a leg during the move. It was mounted to the wall on the flat side. This is my temporary wash station. Id say it turned out great for basically all junk that I had laying around, and the plastic cabinet that my father in law was throwing away.

Then finally got my 2 Crapsman upper cabinets up, along with some simple open shelves to hold my power tools. This setup will change a little bit in the future, I just had to get this up for the mean time!
