Thanks, grnova - any other people out there using scissor lifts? One of the candidates (of course) is the HF one - $1200, 1hp motor, 3450 rpm, 10/14 amps (under load), 6K lb capacity, 20.5" ram stroke, min height 7" when lowered, overal 99.75 x 40 x 7 - an advertised "56" inch raise height - anyone use one of these - or any other brand experience out there - anything to AVOID?

WOW! A 7" lowered height??? You would need ramps to get ON the lift!
