Any body seen this on eBay? Look at this on eBay http://www.ebay.com/itm/261573800945

Is this guy dreaming? If I had that kind of money to spend, why wouldn't I just buy everything new and to my preference.

It's an impressive set of tools but I doubt he'll get over $20k for the lot. And he'll be waiting awhile to get that much.

For a quick sale, I'd list that lot for $10k.

I know. I'm thinking about selling my house and putting a bid in. Haha. I think people(sellers) see snap-on and start dreaming.

Well he does have a lot of stuff. But I'm not impressed enough to spend my pocket change on it

:p

BTW, for someone wanting that kind of coin he's lacking what I would consider a decent collection of socket sets. Most everything in the pictures is mixed and matched and just tossed in there. I'm not impressed.

Don't ask.
Yeah honey, I'm trying to sell my tools. I put them on E-bay.

Honestly, There is a lot of tools there. No doubt it would take more effort but probably be easier to sell and get more $$$ by selling sets and piecing it out.

I believe the main box is a KRL1003 and is most likely pre 2000 because it only has (2) 2" tall drawers in each bank. Not long after that the 1001 and 1003 boxes grew a little taller and came with (3) 2" drawers. Based on the general condition of the tools in the box, I would estimate the value of both top and bottom boxes and locker at about $5000-$8000 empty.

Based only on the tools in the pictures and assumming the sockets sets and wrench sets are Snap-on and mostly complete, I see about $5000-$6000 in tools sold individually on Ebay. Not to mention countless hours doing inventory and typing up and posting listings plus shipping stuff out.

So yeah...... $85000 is a bit of a laugh. I would have some fun helping him go through it and selling it though. I would list it all individually here 1st and at less than Ebay pricing in lieu of dealing with their fees and potential for getting hosed by buyers.

My $0.02.

The dude needs to take a laptop and a mouse and just go to town listing on ebay. Can combine shipping which means sometimes people will buy more than one item off ya.

It is easier to list on ebay these days with their new seller's form.

It looks like the Ebay listing was last updated in Dec 2014. I guess the seller isn't in a hurry to sell, and he isn't going to be using the technique of dropping the price slowly until he catches a fish.:lol_hitti

I'll all but bet that it's a widow to whom a GJmember/husband lied to about the value of the tools.
He paid 45k telling her it was a deal at twice the price.

Dead husbands never lie.

That's the amount that I was thinking. There's no way all the stuff in the boxes amounts to 85k. Unless maybe he has like 10 snap-on Verus diagnostic scan tools in there. Lol.

Smart people never buy a box with tools already in it.

Actually I think that's the best way to buy tools as far as value goes.

I see pretty good deals on tool sets on Craigslist fairly often, but still about 4 over priced to one good though.

One thing people who sell a lot of tools agree on is that you should break up big collections into sets/items if you want to make more money from the sale.

I believe this is true - given what I see on the more realistically priced sets that actually sell.

Obviously then you will get a better deal by buying the whole collection.

The key is knowing what you are looking at.

I have bought a couple of full boxes off CL in the past few years in the $500 range. Each of them had specialty tools I needed worth well more than what I paid for the lot.

The main issue I see it that by the time you need a big tool set, and know what to do with it, and know what its worth, you already own the majority of the tools so its no longer worth buying a collection.

Some exceptions of course, like my recent situation. I've gone from general mechanic work of whatever job on whatever vehicle except rebuilding transmissions, to now mainly just building transmissions.

I also just bought an old wood frame pier and beam home. It needs a fair amount of work, and the prices they want around here are astronomical for no bigger than the jobs I need done are, some of which I had to go back and fix right anyway.

I used to do construction/carpentry 30-35 years ago for a living, so I'm going to just do it myself.

But, I don't have (or didn't anyway) much in the way of carpentry tools. and the cost of those is one of the things that put me off just doing it myself in the first place.

I looked on CL for deals, but didn't see many worth pursuing. Did buy a couple of things there, and still look daily for stuff I will need later on, but mainly I had to go buy new.

Now just last week or so I saw a new ad posted. Guy was selling a big collection of tools, 2 circular saws, miter box, drills, small compressor, air line, 100ft ext cord, sawhorses, multisaw, dremel, bits, blades, ladders, paint tools, drywall tools, kneepads, hammers, full belt, wheelbarrow, small concrete tools, air nailers, squares, and quite a lot I don't recall right off hand - all for $500 obo.

Having recently bought most of that, I can tell you it was a lot more than $500.

This is just like my old boss, who's husband was in NASCAR. She was convinced he had 100k in tools. Sure at new truck prices over the 20 years he worked and with their tool allowance, he probably spent 100k. She kept saying when he died she was asking 45k for all of it.

Snap On or not, used is used and I doubt you will be taking buckets of tools to try and warranty out. The SO truck will change his route to avoid you.

This Ebay add kinda reminds me of when I got divorced from the x-*****....she tried to say I had $25K in my jeep......I guess it might be that much if you were to add up all my labor.....but, in reality, I had maybe spent at most $10K on it.

But if I were to sell my jeep now? I'd want about $25k....since the divorce it's received a frame up restore...fuel injected v8, etc, etc, etc.......

Yeah, and for every sale you have to have the buyer pay,, which in my history selling on Ebay about 50% of the time the dirt bag buyer never pays. They get a free pass the first time so you can't even give them a negative review to warn other sellers. Then you have to wait 10 days, then you can relist. With 100+ items thats a lot of admin coordination and followup. I found it painful and Ebay had no interest in helping the seller
